Neither one was Mother Theresa. Slavery was an established institution long before the South seceded so people's attitudes were much different about it than today. These days it sounds really repugnant to me as does the exploitation of illegal immigrants. But just like Lincoln and Davis accepted slavery back then many people today just accept the abuse of illegal aliens.

You're equating the Nazi's with the Confederacy? Can you show me where the Confederacy had a policy to send all the Africans to concentration camps for extermination and mass murder?

 

I hate to break it to you but the US government recognizes Confederate veterans the same as any other American vet. I do not believe the government views Nazi soldiers the same.

So if someone wants to fly a confederate flag to honor the vets then so be it. I personally have no problem with removing the SC flag and putting it in a museum though.

The south was able to establish Jim Crow even with the federal government breathing down their neck. If the confederacy won its independence, they wouldn't even have to worry about the federal government.

Lincoln saw blacks as an inferior race to whites and openly admitted it. Lincoln used freed black men to do the slave jobs so that the white men could fight. When John Fremont freed captured contraband (slaves) and requested that they be used as soldiers, Lincoln had the slaves sent back South and relieved Fremont of his duties and made the comment that blacks would make poor soldiers. After 1863 when Lincoln freed just the slaves of the states that were south of the border states, he either killed or imprisoned any blacks that asked for equal pay. Lincoln said that blacks shall never vote, never hold a governmental job, never socialize with whites, and never intermarry whites. He was representative of the American flag, so if you find the Confederate Flag to be a racist symbol, then certainly you must also find the American Flag to be a racist symbol... Unless, of course, I've got you pegged all wrong and you just have an agenda to push. Let me know.

The slaves didn't own anything. Everything, including their body, was owned by their master.

It was far worse than being in prison.

 

Nothing I said was wrong, and no, I don't see the flag of the USA as a racist symbol. It is a symbol that has been co-opted for agendas over the past few centuries. The Tea Party has even tried to co-opt Captain America, with him appearing at their rallies (until Marvel put a stop to that). Unlike the confederate flag, the flag of the USA was never intended to be a symbol of racial superiority. The flags cannot be compared in such a manner. In fact, many Southerners still call it the "rebel flag" because it's the antithesis of former northern values.

We all have to draw the line somewhere. We can all find artifacts of racism in all parts of America throughout the history of America. The Constitution still stated that black people are not full people. But I don't see the Constitution as being racist. Not only that, if it was adhered to, black Americans would have more power.
