While the science is not settled, I still sustain that more evidence than not points to the trend that wearing the proper masks and the right way decreases the relative risk of catching the virus, although the efficiency of it is diminished by the various intervening factors and by the fact that most people wear the wrong masks and the wrong way. Still, some protection is likely to be better than no protection. Now, the rolling-on-the-ground-laughing emoticon is a bit childish. I came to expect more of you in terms of an intelligent and civil debate, so if you drop the sarcastic emoticons, you'll be taken more seriously.

Also, it isn't a binary choice. Even if exposed, reducing the viral load is good. Masks can help to reduce the level of exposure.

Good point. Viral load matters. We've seen cases of young and healthy doctors dying of Covid-19 by virtue of having acquired a high viral load from severe exposure while performing their duties (a heartbreaking issue). These were people that if they were not doctors dealing daily with Covid-19 infected patients often with inadequate PPE, and if they had simply contracted the virus in the community, would have survived. They died because the very high viral load overwhelmed their defenses. So, while children are an age group that has had a much smaller fatality rate (which is not zero; just smaller), if one catches the virus, one will be better off if the viral load is smaller.

Well I say he is guilty of the negligent homicide of thousands of people, just like trump is guilty of the negligent homicide of 300,000 - 400,000 people; and possibly through willful negligence. In either case that makes them both mass murderers.

When criminal or willful negligence results in the deaths of thousand or hundreds of thousands of people, it is most certainly mass murder.

 

I don’t put ignorant people in the same class as willfull intent to commit mass murder. That’s why we have manslaughter charges.

 

There is the third option: A reckless and callous disregard for life.

If you kill someone because of that, it is called murder. And Manslaughter is also a murder charge. It was typically called third-degree murder.
