    I probably should, or buy a Vegan cookbook, even though I am not vegan, haha. But at least they have some egg free substitutes!

    Thanks for the links, I will def check them out. I buy vegan pasta because I can't stomach the normal stuff. Tastes just the same, its made from rice, I think. And biscuits, even though they are soo expensive!!

    Makedde, might I ask what type of eggs you're using? If you're using the standard mass produced "chicken factory" eggs you might try switching to farm raised or cage free eggs. All eggs we buy are from local farmers that don't pump their chickens full of antibiotics and drugs, and you really can taste the difference, as natural eggs have a much stronger flavor than the alternative. If that doesn't work you could try cooking with another type of egg...something like duck eggs or quail eggs (although you would have to use quite a few quail eggs) come to mind.

    Good thought. Farm raised eggs have a much thicker shell as well. I won't use anything but.

    Agreed, once you see and taste the difference it really makes you wonder what exactly they are doing to those "other" chickens. I'm a big fan of duck eggs too, but talk about a thick shell...they're like breaking concrete.

    A friend of ours raised Ostriches. Now that was quite an undertaking to crack that egg. Difficult to hold, hard as a rock, but you have to crack only one to feed a family of 10, lol.

    Have you considered using tofu or tahini ?

    Tofu is more suitable for soups, casseroles, and salads. Tahini (though it can be used for these as well) is more suitable for desserts. Since you appear to be asking about egg substitute for baking, I suggest tahini as it will add flavor, nutrition, and good texture to your baking.

    Halvah is a sesame based custard (same thing as tahini) that can readily be found in any large super market. It is delicious and adds flavor to any dessert. I especially love milk shakes made from it. The taste and the good feeling it gives you is beyond description.

    It does! Soda water as a substitute? I would never have guessed! That's something I can get my hands on easily enough, I might try and see how well my brownies turn out with it.

    Trying to eliminate milk next. But soy milk taste like utter (*)(*)(*)(*). Maybe lactose free milk would be all I need.

    Carbonated drinks have been used successfully as leavening, just think tempura.
    Its what makes using an acid base (lemon juice, vinegar and such) in combination with baking soda work.
    Vinegar and baking soda is also a rather great in freshening up sink drains.
    Pour some baking soda into the drain, add some vinegar and watch the magic.

    You could also try Almond Milk or Coconut Milk; both are very healthy. I prefer Coconut Milk and my wife prefers Almond Milk so I guess you'd just have to try both to see if you like one better than the other. If you like Coconut Milk, which I think tastes better than ice cream, you can use it in cooking too. I use Coconut Milk in most every curry or Indian dish I make, as it adds such a nice sweet taste to balance out the heat from peppers.

    I also noticed how well the yolk stays together ! fresh local eggs yum yum!

    The only problem is the milk is that is usually comes in one litre cartons, and I don't go through that much. I just like it for a cup of tea a few times a week. I like those small cartons, the ones that are like a little juice box kids use, but while I can get full cream and skim milk in those mini boxes, I can't get any other milk. Silly, I don't know why they seem to think everyone goes through a litre or more a week!

    Do you have access to good quality canned coconut milk in your area? It's a pretty good alternative to the refridgerated version.

    It is NOT whipped cream. It is whipped topping...probably, it's mostly sugar. I find it WAY too sweet.

    sometimes these oils are not good for baking or cooking. It's a matter of the smoking point for these oils. And personally i don't like the taste of olive oil in a cake mix.

    I used Mayonnaise once....I was short one egg and a tablespoon worked..I got the idea from a recipe...

    Canola oil works well for baking. It's also much cheaper than olive oil!

    And I can't use coconut oil...I'm allergic. :( Until you can't have it, you do not realize just how many things have coconut in them! (Offhand: most movie theatres make their popcorn with coconut oil.)

    oh , ok , you're perhaps alergic to eggs , I'd use 'egg-beaters' , found in a lot of grocery stores in the US , you prolly have them in Austrailia as well .


    yep , but olive oil gives me some real bad gas , ya know ?


    :woozy: sounds like a great way to ruin a good cake to me .

    I 100 % agree , Subby , if I had to give up my fresh hen eggs , I'd just have to stop eating .

    The only thing I can add....is that after reading these posts I am hankering for an omelot made from fresh eggs, locally produced with hard shells.

    I've been bugging my husband to buy some hens. But he won't do it because he says they eat their own poop...and he won't touch those eggs.

    I don't think it matters what kind of oil you use for baking. My cake called for vegetable oil but all I had was canola. It worked fine. All oil is the same to me!

    You know, reading though this makes me wonder how many products contain eggs, or egg products. Its not just ordinary eggs I need to get rid of, its egg entirely. Eggs are in biscuits, cakes, probably even bread. And a lot of products say they are egg free, but then on the back of the pack it says it was may contain eggs products. Huh? How to tell?
    It would be easier if all the 'special' food was cheaper. Instead, its double the price. Last week I was shopping and I found these biscuits, ones I totally love. They were in the health food isle, egg, dairy, wheat and gluten free. I picked them up and was about to put them in my trolley when I saw the price. $7.00! For a pack of no more than six! Yet I could buy the exact same biscuits, the ordinary kind, a whole package, for half that price! I was rather disgusted with that.

    well , I can't say whether they do or they don't eat their own poop , but I don't think they will if ya keep their feed bowl filled , but a hen just loves to scratch around and eat bugs & worms & stuff , it's just their nature . and ya know , a bird will walk 3 steps & poop , walk 3 more steps & poop , that's all day long .     yep , that eating healthy is downright expensive , sheesh . I hate to tell ya , but you'll be hard pressed to find anything that will completely be free of eggs or egg products , especially bread , or brownies , lol , brownies have about 6 egg yolks . only thing that might be a substitute is 'egg-beaters' or powdered eggs , ( powdered eggs have a lot of the fat taken out ) but the fat is what gives it that great egg flavor .

    But you know , bread & omlets & brownies , a person could live without , but before I gave it up , I'd buy some organic eggs & try them . It may be your alergic to what commercial producers feed their laying hens , and that will be in their eggs as well , steroids & vitamins & growth hormones , so , I'd try a dozen and see what happens . If all is well , you can always raise your own laying hens and gather your own home grown organic eggs . . a lot cheaper than buying them , all it takes is one rooster and a few handfulls of scratch feed & a maybe an apple of fruit of some sort . shoot , Mak , y'all have all kinds of lizards there in Austrailia , try a lizard egg .
    I used to raise bobwhite quail , and they laid eggs faster than I could eat them , they're the small side , but they have a great flavor , and it may be that a wild breed of birds eggs might not bother your system at all . Don't know if y'all have quail in Austrailia , but y'all have Ostriches , and that's a whopper of an egg , Kwi the same way , get ya one and try it .
