That goes for every healthcare system. No healthcare system is ready for everyone being sick. We have enough doctors and hospital beds for the usual number, but not for millions more.

You are taking my statement a little too literally. Every healthcare system is only able to handle a bit more than the usual number being sick every year. So when an unusually high number becomes sick, there will be shortages and lines. This is because it is impractical to maintain a much larger number of staff and facilities than needed at at all times.

 

Socialized medicine operates at a minimalist level which is why there are such long waits for procedures and why they are quickly overwhelmed by by an out of the ordinary event.

 

Why would there be "millions more"?

 

That's the rub.
People who earn half as much as you think you should pay twice as much as them.

The Corona virus is probably going to infect tens of millions of people in the US. And millions of those will be severe or critical cases that need medical attention.

 

Its good Australia is doing something. In the US, we are debating over whether the virus is even a problem at all.

That's the one thing I fault Trump on -- he should have stopped ALL international flights, closed all POE's, restricted merchant marine sailors to their ships on Jan 31, and closed the borders except for trade goods, that is, hit coronavirus with an iron fist.

Easy to see in hindsight, tough to do in the heat of the moment.

Perhaps. Perhaps there was compelling information provided by the Chinese that their internal containment was going to be successful.. As the CDC says, when the weather changes, we might be able to relax these but it isn't certain. Perhaps this is the nail in the coffin for globalism....

 

Sounds like good business for Dr Brian Monahan. Maybe he should explain how his prediction will be able to overcome social distancing and containment... But NBC always finds the wackos and always, there are folks here who flock to it.

 

If it ends globalism the COVID-19 episode is well worth it.
