We are debating if it's a crisis. Any new virus is a problem but the current panic over it is the only crisis.

I'm curious what makes you say that.
    Maybe you could explain?

In the era of sober retrospective analysis of this panic people will be shaking their heads in amazement and embarrassment over the mass hysteria about a new virus that's just a very bad cold.

Keep in mind that in Italy is actually a two-tiered healthcare system and there is a mix of both public and private hospitals, public and private insurance, and public and private doctors. It isn't socialized medicine, not even close. Also the amount of healthcare provided by the system differs by the country.

The US has its own form of rationing. The high cost of healthcare is our version of rationing. Americans tend to avoid and procrastinate going to the doctor because of the cost. Many also have little to no health insurance to save money. As a result we go to the doctor a lot less and therefore actually have less healthcare resources available due to the lower demand. One thing we are better at is specialist care and advanced technology. Unfortunately for us, its the preventative care that fixes the problems early that is going to be most effective for dealing with this virus. Most people who get this virus need normal health care and don't need the cutting-edge expensive care.

Because we avoid going to the doctor, the infected are less likely to be tested, and as a result the virus is going to spread more. Also, avoiding normal healthcare is going to result in more advanced illness for many, which will tax our advanced care more than other developed nations. Even with all our advanced care, we don't have the resources for millions of sick. And all this is going to cause a lot more economic damage due to the high cost. Without a large public system that covers nearly everyone, we are also less able to deliver a national organized response from our healthcare system.

"The National Health System of Italy. The national health system of Italy, called the Servizio Sanitario Nazioanale, is the branch that provides inexpensive health care to all the European citizens. This system was instituted in 1978 to provide universal healthcare for its citizens."

    Sounds like socialism to me.

By the way I thought obamacare fixed all tne problems you claim our system has.

I understand that actually reading what these folks is saying is way too much to ask, but perhaps you should, just so, you know, you get the context and of what they are saying.....

We've had 16,000 common flu deaths in the USA in 2020

We've had 38 coronavirus deaths in the USA.

China has had around 3200 coronavirus deaths total and slowing.

Do you actually think the USA will exceed China in coronavirus deaths, and then continue higher with coronavirus deaths to the point of exceeding our 16,000 common flu deaths, making corona virus more deadly than common flu?

    LoL.

We have 200,000 flu hospitalizations per year.

We have 1,000,000 pneumonia hospitalizations per year, of which 50,000 die annually.

    Puh-lease.

    Do you have enough TP?

If Covid 19 spent $500 million on spreading itself, it could have given every person in the US $1 million each instead.

Italy also has private insurance that also provides healthcare to everyone as well, for a price of course. And Obamacare didn't fix the problems with our healthcare, not by a long shot.
