Could a Utah State Dollar save the USA Dollar?

I just found out something rather important related to this topic…..

This is Article I, Section 10:

No State shall enter into any Treaty, Alliance, or Confederation; grant Letters of Marque and Reprisal; coin Money; emit Bills of Credit; make any Thing but gold and silver Coin a Tender in Payment of Debts; pass any Bill of Attainder, ex post facto Law, or Law impairing the Obligation of Contracts, or grant any Title of Nobility.

A state can't coin its own money. But it can require that only gold and silver be used as legal tender. The original language in the Constitution actually requires it. (Though I think SCOTUS rulings and federal law have allowed for fiat currency.) I'm sure that a modern gold/silver-based currency wouldn't involve coins. You're probably keep your stash of gold and silver in a depository, and you'd pay with a electronic transfer of ownership for the amount of your debt. A potential problem is that gold and silver values fluctuate so much. So prices might also fluctuate. Imagine if the price of all the goods and services you bought swung up and down daily--or even hourly--like gasoline does.

I have to wonder though if this law against a state printing its own currency….. was based on the fact that state currencies (scrip) worked so well back in 1750?

The following historical story is taken from a radio address given by Congressman Charles G. Binderup of Nebraska, some 50 years ago and was reprinted in Unrobing the Ghosts of Wall Street:

Colonies More Prosperous Than The Home Country

Before the American War for Independence in 1776, the colonized part of what is today the United States of America was a possession of England. It was called New England, and was made up of 13 colonies, which became the first 13 states of the great Republic. Around 1750, this New England was very prosperous. Benjamin Franklin was able to write:

"There was abundance in the Colonies, and peace was reigning on every border. It was difficult, and even impossible, to find a happier and more prosperous nation on all the surface of the globe. Comfort was prevailing in every home. The people, in general, kept the highest moral standards, and education was widely spread."

When Benjamin Franklin went over to England to represent the interests of the Colonies, he saw a completely different situation: the working population of this country was gnawed by hunger and poverty. "The streets are covered with beggars and tramps," he wrote. He asked his English friends how England, with all its wealth, could have so much poverty among its working classes.

His friends replied that England was a prey to a terrible condition: it had too many workers! The rich said they were already overburdened with taxes, and could not pay more to relieve the needs and poverty of this mass of workers. Several rich Englishmen of that time actually believed, along with Mathus, that wars and plague were necessary to rid the country from man-power surpluses.

Franklin's friends then asked him how the American Colonies managed to collect enough money to support their poor houses, and how they could overcome this plague of pauperism. Franklin replied:

"We have no poor houses in the Colonies; and if we had some, there would be nobody to put in them, since there is, in the Colonies, not a single unemployed person, neither beggars nor tramps."

His friends could not believe their ears, and even less understand this fact, since when the English poor houses and jails became too cluttered, England shipped these poor wretches and down-and- outs, like cattle, and discharged, on the quays of the Colonies, those who had survived the poverty, dirtiness and privations of the journey. At that time, England was throwing into jail those who could not pay their debts. They therefore asked Franklin how he could explain the remarkable prosperity of the New England Colonies. Franklin replied:

"That is simple. In the Colonies, we issue our own paper money. It is called 'Colonial Scrip.' We issue it in proper proportion to make the goods and pass easily from the producers to the consumers. In this manner, creating ourselves our own paper money, we control its purchasing power and we have no interest to pay to no one."

The Bankers Impose Poverty

The information came to the knowledge of the English Bankers, and held their attention. They immediately took the necessary steps to have the British Parliament to pass a law that prohibited the Colonies from using their scrip money, and then ordered them to use only the gold and silver money that was provided in sufficient quantity by the English bankers. Then began in America the plague of debt-money, which has never since brought so many curses to the American people.

The first law was passed in 1751, and then completed by a more restrictive law in 1763. Franklin reported that one year after the implementation of this prohibition on Colonial money, the streets of the Colonies were filled with unemployment and beggars, just like in England, because there was not enough money to pay for the goods and work. The circulating medium of exchange had been reduced by half.

Franklin added that this was the original cause of the American Revolution - and not the tax on tea nor the Stamp Act, as it has been taught again and again in history books. The financiers always manage to have removed from school books all that can throw light on their own schemes, and damage the glow that protects their power.

Franklin, who was one of the chief architects of the American independence, wrote it clearly:

"The Colonies would gladly have borne the little tax on tea and other matters had it not been the poverty caused by the bad influence of the English bankers on the Parliament, which has caused in the Colonies hatred of England and the Revolutionary War."

This point of view of Franklin was confirmed by great statesmen of his era: John Adams, Jefferson, and several others. A remarkable English historian, John Twells, wrote, speaking of the money of the Colonies, the Colonial Scrip:

"It was the monetary system under which America's Colonies flourished to such an extent that Edmund Burke was able to write about them: 'Nothing in the history of the world resembles their progress. It was a sound and beneficial system, and its effects led to the happiness of the people.'" John Twells adds:

"In a bad hour, the British Parliament took away from America its representative money, forbade any further issue of bills of credit, these bills ceasing to be legal tender, and ordered that all taxes should be paid in coins. Consider now the consequences: this restriction of the medium of exchange paralyzed all the industrial energies of the people. Ruin took place in these once flourishing Colonies; most rigorous distress visited every family and every business, discontent became desperation, and reached a point, to use the words of Dr. Johnson, when human nature rises up and assets its rights."

Another writer, Peter Cooper, expresses himself along the same lines. After having said how Franklin had explained to the London Parliament the cause of the prosperity of the Colonies, he wrote:

"After Franklin gave explanations on the true cause of the prosperity of the Colonies, the Parliament exacted laws forbidding the use of this money in the payment of taxes. This decision brought so many drawbacks and so much poverty to the people that it was the main cause of the Revolution. The suppression of the Colonial money was a much more important reason for the general uprising than the Tea and Stamp Act."

Today, in America as well as in Europe, we are under the regime of the Scrip of the Bankers instead of the scrip of the nation. Hence the public debts, everlasting interest charges, taxes that plunder purchasing power, with the only result being a consolidation of the financial dictatorship.

There is only one cure for America's ultimate financial collapse and that is for Congress to exercise Clause 30 of the "Federal" Reserve Act, buy the outstanding shares of stock, shut down this unconstitutional system and sell off their assets to reimburse the people of this nation for this unspeakable theft of their wealth. This is the first installment of postings on this issue, new ones will be put up as soon as manpower allows.

The Russians are actually making a move against the petrodollar. It appears that they are quite serious about their de-dollarization strategy. The largest natural gas producer on the planet, Gazprom, has signed agreements with some of their biggest customers to switch payments for natural gas from U.S. dollars to euros. And Gazprom would have never done this without the full approval of the Russian government, because the Russian government holds a majority stake in Gazprom. There hasn't been a word about this from the big mainstream news networks in the United States, but this is huge. When you are talking about Gazprom, you are talking about a company that is absolutely massive. It is one of the largest companies in the entire world and it makes up 8 percent of Russian GDP all by itself. It holds 18 percent of the natural gas reserves of the entire planet, and it is also a very large oil producer. So for Gazprom to make a move like this is extremely significant.

My wife is from Ecuador. When her nation abandoned their own Sucre..... they adopted the USA dollar as their national currency.

This was certainly a compliment for the basic stability and real value of the dollar....... but...... you know what happens if there is a high level of supply........ and a significant decrease in demand?

If China and several Middle Eastern nations were to come into agreement with Russia... and abandon the dollar in favor of... for example... the Euro as Russia has done.......... then the demand vs supply situation for the USA dollar could be altered drastically within a year or two or ten?!

A Utah State dollar for example....... could be combined with an agreement between the State government of Utah with the USA federal government that any USA currency printed before 2018..... would be valued at a minimum of eighty cents per Utah dollar .... which would act as an insurance policy for the USA national dollar.

Why wouldn't a flat tax work ?

From the guy making $7/hr to Bill Gates. Why would a flat tax of say, 18% (or whatever it may need to be) not work ?
Right now you have the lower wage earners paying little to none. And on the other end you have the richest Americans buying their way to only having to pay 13% as Romney did in 2011.

If America is unwilling to get rid of taxes completely and base it all on sales tax, then flat tax is the best option.

I personally believe that a flat tax is a great idea. Of course... some sort of tax exemption for the working poor so that they pay no income tax until they earn over $20,000 or so is necessary.

A flat tax of about ten percent would have major advantages......… especially if honesty in filing and claiming income was enforced so that you could take out the drug lords. You are correct that sales taxes have major advantages over a tax on income.

All that is needed for a flat tax to work is for government to do what President Lincoln did and use monetary policy itself to make loans to all levels of government at zero percent … (or nearly zero percent interest)....for all infrastructure projects.

Prime Minister Mackenzie King began this experiment up here in Canada in 1940 and it worked extremely well for over three decades until an extremely popular P. M. made a serious error and ended this policy at the same time that he took the Canadian dollar off the gold standard.

P. M. Trudeau was wise indeed to delink our dollar from gold for many reasons... but when he made the decision to do so some influential people added a terrible idea to the same bill..... Here is how I worded this in my 2006 campaign for M. L. A.

From 1940 to 1970 the Government of Canada put roughly half of the total money supply into the economy through loans issued through the federally owned Bank of Canada. Provincial and municipal governments could borrow the money to build roads, schools, hospitals and sewage treatment facilities at zero or one percent interest. In 1970 we changed our system and since that time a higher and higher percentage of all government debt is financed through loans issued through privately owned banks. At this time it is ninety eight percent. The massive cutbacks in the Canadian military, in health care, highway construction, social programs and education were profoundly affected by these accounting practices?

So what can you and I do about this problem?
1. If we will do our homework and study this question we can put pressure on our provincial level politicians to create a provincially owned bank. A true Bank of Nova Scotia owned by all Nova Scotians could be used to finance town and municipal government projects at zero or one percent interest just as The Bank of Canada used to do.

2. Town and municipal government officials in New Glasgow, Stellarton and Trenton should seriously consider creating a local currency unit such as has been done in Ithaca, New York.

In 1972, the United States Treasury Department was asked to compute the amount of interest that would have been paid if that 400 million dollars would have been borrowed at interest instead of being issued by Abraham Lincoln. They did some computations, and a few weeks later, the United States Treasury Department said the United States Government saved 4 billion dollars in interest because Lincoln had created his own money. So you can about imagine how much the Government has paid and how much we owe solely on the basis of interest.

The image of the future that they gave me then, and it was their image, not one that I created, surprised me. My image had previously been sort of like Star Wars, where everything was space age, plastics, and technology.

The future that they showed me was almost no technology at all. What everybody, absolutely everybody, in this euphoric future spent most of their time doing was raising children. The chief concern of people was children, and everybody considered children to be the most precious commodity in the world.

And when a person became an adult, there was no sense of anxiety, nor hatred, nor competition.

There was this enormous sense of trust and mutual respect. If a person, in this view of the future, became disturbed, then the community of people all cared about the disturbed person falling away from the harmony of the group. Spiritually, through prayer and love, the others would elevate the afflicted person.

What people did with the rest of their time was that they gardened, with almost no physical effort. They showed me that plants, with prayer, would produce huge fruits and vegetables.

People, in unison, could control the climate of the planet through prayer. Everybody would work with mutual trust and the people would call the rain, when needed, and the sun to shine.

The value of Mitt Romney as a presidential candidate could greatly increase in value in the near future?!

Over these next months if the front runner in the G. O. In 1994 I found out that President Lincoln had initiated a brilliant monetary policy that saved American taxpayers four billion dollars in interest payments. Several of Mordecai Spiro's friends have offered a check for fifty thousand dollar to the individual or group who can somehow arrange for the remains of Rabbi Nachman of Breslov to be on a plane headed to Israel.

I believe that the check.......... should be regarded as a prop in a series of documentary, reality and semi-reality science fiction film projects. It should NOT be cashed!

It should be laminated..... and put on the wall of somebody's home or perhaps in a museum.......... and frankly I was thinking that some sort of Museum in Utah would be perfect!

The number that they chose may have been inspired...... 50 is the number of Jubilee....... and 1000 is the number of years in what Christians term the "millennium."

I have gotten the impression that the closer you get to the people.the higher the probability is that the elected official actually cares about their voters.

Municipal level politicians actually know the voters and this is where we could say"the rubber meets the road."

It seems to me that President Putin is not an opponent that any wise USA President should underestimate.

He has an eighth Dan Black Belt and understands the principle.......... that if you like your strike up with TRUTH........ a man's hand can break boards or quite a number of cinder blocks.

It is true that Monsanto GMO's are at this moment feeding 1.2 billion people or so but.......................

On that note...... I have a rather funny story to tell you......

As a former member of the Worldwide Church of God, I feel a connection with the L.D.S. I was told that my mentor, who got me out of Atheism back in 1973 when I was 12, was made a very good offer after his dad, Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong kicked him out of his church. Mr. Garner Ted Armstrong was courted to become a spokesman for the L. D. S. A very serious offer was made, but my old mentor felt led instead to begin the Church of God International........ But...... showing respect to the man who I listened to, for a half hour or so, often more than ten times each week while I was a teenager.............. make something of a treaty - covenant between the L. D. S. and former students of Mr. Garner Ted Armstrong.

I have kind of a funny story to tell you......... Back when I was in my twenties the Worldwide Church of God addressed the question of whether or not we should try to stockpile several months worth of food and supplies in case of emergencies? The judgment that Mr. Herbert W. Armstrong and his advisors came up with was No......... this would make WWCG members a target in the case of a natural disaster that created desperation among a high percentage of people.

Well....... the joke is on us because when Hurricane Katrina hit....... LDS, because you had stockpiled food and supplies, you were in a special position to assist the people of New Orleans in A HUGE WAY????? Just Google "Latter Day Saints, Hurricane Katrina, assistance" and lots of results will pop up...... Google Worldwide Church of God, Hurricane Katrina, assistance" and you will be lucky to find any results at all.

EAch decision that we make has advantages as well as disadvantages and I have noticed that politicians rarely ever write or speak about the positive side to a proposal put forward by a political opponent.
