Mr. Nugent had two deferments to escape the draft during the Vietnam war. One student deferment in 1968 for enrolling in a community college, and one in 1969
for being physically unfit for service for a medical condition (4F). There's a rumor he stopped bathing for a month, to avoid the draft, whether that's true or not I don't know. The fact remains he was found unfit for service. Meaning another young man went in his place...another young man faced the hardships of combat in Vietnam and returned to a citizenry that was at best indifferent to his sacrifice..and at it's worst he would have been spit upon and called "baby killer."

I have a hard time calling Mr. Nugent a "hero" in any, way, shape or form. He made a lot of money as a rock n' roll entertainer..enough to buy land in Texas and an armory full of guns n' ammo. He hunts animals, that don't shoot back and is an advocate for firearms...yet another young man served in Vietnam, because Mr. Nugent didn't.

This nameless, faceless, Vietnam veteran who served because Mr. Nugent was found unfit for service...is the real hero in my humble opinion.
