    Not this again.

    CONGRESSMAN PAT RYAN CONTINUES PUSH FOR ACTION ON MIGRANT CRISIS, INTRODUCES THE "COURAGE TO SERVE ACT" WITH WEST POINT CLASSMATE CONGRESSMAN JOHN JAMES

    WASHINGTON, DC – Today, Congressman Pat Ryan, alongside his West Point classmate Congressman John James (R-MI), introduced the bipartisan “Courage to Serve Act.'' The bill creates a pilot program that would provide an expedited path to citizenship for qualified and vetted migrants who serve in the military. The legislation addresses two challenges facing the United States: an influx of migrants looking to work, build a better life for their families, and contribute to our country, as well as a recruitment crisis within the ranks of our Armed Forces.

    The “Courage to Serve Act” creates a pilot program that would allow a qualified and vetted set of migrants to receive an expedited path to citizenship in exchange for military service, provided they:

    • Successfully complete multiple background checks conducted by both USCIS and FBI.
    • Are admissible to the United States, and;
    • Otherwise eligible for enlistment in the Armed Forces.
    There was a similar program back during the GWOT to utilize illegals for the Army, hoping to recruit people with needed languages. It was a failure as I recall because I think they only got 23 or so recruits from this program, because "migrants" just can't be vetted. They couldn't pass the security check so I suspect will spend a lot of money and resources on this program with similar results.

    Since there is a Starship Troopers discourse going on in Twitter, these seems an appropriate place to drop this.

    Not sure why this is even needed. There has been expedited citizenship and even waiving almost all fees associated with it for members of the military for decades now. So not exactly sure how this is any different.

    Reminds me a hell of a lot of the "Army College Fund" that they loved promoting back in the 1980s. Was the exact same VA program that every branch of the service had, but the Army tried to claim theirs was better. Even though it was the exact same, a lot of people bought it.

    Fundamentally seems like a good idea. If the logistics and interest aren't there, then I guess it won't work out.

    On your meme I dunno how applicable it is. This isn't Russia. Our military isn't a meatgrinder for raw recruits.

    I do not like this. It will create a means for our government to prosecute wars that the American people do not support, as they will not have to worry any longer about reaching recruitment goals, and will also create a military that is largely not made up of those who are loyal to the American people.

    They'll be more loyal to the government than the people, as it is the government, not the people that will give them their citizenship, and would be more likely to turn on Americans in a case where there is an uprising where our government goes too far.

    Wait a second! Are you trying to tell me that the Visigoth legionnaires might have other loyalties than to Romans? Outrageous I say!
