Everything that Trump touches dies. It does not appear like CPAC will be the exception. And if the GOP is going to be the exception, it will be the Democrats who save it.

And we save it we MUST! Because if the Republican Party dies, democracy dies. But it's not going to look pretty. They are going to need to get rid of the Santos', the DeSantis', of wimps like McCarthy and Pence...and of ... the Divorce Queen (whatever her name is)

If CPAC is on the way out, that's not a bad thing. Anything to take power out of the Schlapp's hands.

    New news:
During discovery for the sexual assault case against Schalpp documents were found by 2 other men who had filed similar sexual complaints against Schlapp and CPAC didn't investigate.
They never filed a law suit against him.

Gezz, between Matt Schlapp and Christian/Bridget Ziegler the GOP has given new meaning to the sanctity of marriage between one man and one woman. :roflol:
Betcha the 3 of them are "Conversion Therapy" advocates.

"Inside Matt Schlapp’s Offer to Settle the Sexual Battery Lawsuit Against Him'
    Roger Sollenberger
Mon, August 28, 2023 at 9:49 PM EDT

    Snips:

'Embattled conservative activist Matt Schlapp made an offer in March to settle the multimillion-dollar sexual battery and defamation lawsuit against him, but the proposal was rejected, according to multiple people with direct knowledge of the matter.

The offer from Schlapp was in the low six figures, according to the sources. But Schlapp’s accuserRepublican strategist Carlton Huffman, who filed the lawsuit against Schlapp and his wife, Mercedes Schlapp, in January—turned it down and countered with a substantially higher sum. Schlapp did not accept the counterproposal, the sources said.

The settlement negotiations were brought to the attention of officials at Schlapp’s organization, the American Conservative Union, which hosts the annual CPAC conferences. But the ACU board was not formally consulted and did not vote on the offer ahead of time, according to multiple people with knowledge of the events. These sources spoke to The Daily Beast on the condition of anonymity, citing fear of retaliation.

'These back-door negotiations are among a number of developments that have raised internal concerns at the ACU in recent months, as Schlapp has persistently kept the board out of the loop in discussions related to Huffman’s allegation, the lawsuit, funding for his legal defense, and the ACU’s own bookkeeping, according to sources with knowledge of the events and previous news reports.'

    Too funny!
Schlapp's spokesguy Mark Corallo disputes the CPAC documents plaintiff's lawyers have from discovery.
Real intelligent comment when the docs were entered in an updated filing.

Corallo was on Air Force One when Hope Hicks was on the phone with junior cooking up some scheme which Corallo heard and quit Trump a few days later.

    Here's the WAPO piece

'Lawsuit claims CPAC knew of past allegations of sexual misconduct by Matt Schlapp'
    Source: Washington Post

    December 16, 2023 at 6:00 a.m. EST

'Officials overseeing the Conservative Political Action Conference knew about past accusations of sexual misconduct by chairman Matt Schlapp but failed to investigate or remove him from his powerful post, an amended sexual battery and defamation lawsuit claims.

In one alleged incident, during a fundraising trip to South Florida in early 2022, Schlapp was accused of stripping to his underwear and rubbing against another person without his consent, according to the filing. In 2017, at a CPAC after-party, Schlapp attempted to kiss an employee against his wishes, the lawsuit claims.

In both cases, according to the suit, the alleged victims reported the unwanted advances to staffers at CPAC’s parent organization, the American Conservative Union, but no action was taken against Schlapp, a longtime Republican power broker and prominent backer of former president Donald Trump.

The new allegations were added one week ago to a lawsuit filed in January by a former Republican campaign staffer, Carlton Huffman, who accused Schlapp of groping him in October 2022. The alleged additional victims are not identified and are not joining the suit; the court filing says their allegations were obtained through the discovery process. Mark Corallo, a spokesman for Schlapp, on Friday disputed the claims and attacked Huffman’s credibility.'

Of course nothing was ever done with these sexual complaints by men.
Matt Schlapp is CHAIRMAN of the American Conservative Union.

Because it's good news. CPAC has been shifting further and further to the right. To the point where they boarder fascism. Their failure is a win for moral folk in this country.

Maybe I don't really know what CPAC is (I've never paid much attention to it), butI don't think the deflation of CPAC is necessarily indicative of a reduction in conservativism. Kinda like how the NRA has been slowly shrinking to near nonexistance over the same period of time that household gun ownership increased from ~40% to over ~50%, and while church attendance is reducing, religioun/spirituality is not. Its more likely just more people being less interested in tying themselves to doctrinal authoritative institutions, than it is an indication of any major partisan shift. No one likes the status quo, and things like CPAC seem or sound kinda like just a wing of the status quo.

I don't either. I've been waiting for Conservatives to realize that the Republican Party is no longer conservative. CPAC certainly hasn't realized this. Not sure if this means they are now starting to understand. But I've been waiting for a while for them to realize the fact. Maybe the lack of excitement at CPAC is indicative that they are slowly realizing this. Maybe not. But I think it would be a great show of force for conservatives to demand that CPAC returns to what it was created to do. And that is NOT to cater to a non-conservative like Trump.

CPAC is an event and gathering of reputlicans put on every election cycle. The purpose is to give republican candidates a platform to make their case. If you like to listen to republican speeches it is worth a look. I don't like political speeches so I've never watched it personally.

Ironic that he is leading the polls for POTUS, yet he has been terrible for the down ticket. Hopefully people will tire of the windbag ASAP and send him packing once and for all.
