The shooter at Perry High School in Perry, Iowa, is dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound and may have been a student, according to multiple law enforcement officials briefed on the matter.

Three others were injured, including two students and an administrator, the officials said.

And there was another shooting making it two and the year has barely begun.

Huh, maybe if we took care of our kids like we take care of politicians and banks we wouldn't be seeing this happen... It really is funny how protecting our politicians and banks with armed guards is a necessity, but not our kids.

with the rate of shootings , you just might have a point. Better security at the schools. We have to accept that violence is a big art of living in this nation. A tragic reality.

There is violence in any country. Not just ours. Instead of focusing on the problems that cause violence, like politicians are supposed to do, politicians instead blame objects and act as if doing something about those objects is the answer. For example in the UK they're trying to ban knives, even kitchen knives that are "pointed" have been suggested for bans. You have a good point. However, thankfully there is a limit to the number of people that you can slaughter running around with a kitchen knife.

Yes, it is true that guns can kill more in one instance than knives. Yet knives account for more homicides than any of the rifles (or all combined) that are targeted by gun control advocates. Hand guns kill even more, yet politicians still focus on rifles more than handguns, or knives (at least here in the US). Even in mass shootings handguns are used more than rifles. Yet politicians still focus mainly on rifles acting as if they are the most dangerous weapons out there.

Its high time we start trying to get our politicians to start focusing on the causes of violence instead of objects. Unfortunately I don't see that happening because too many are convinced by our politicians that the objects are the problem. At most they're just a symptom.

Of course those politicians on the other side of the spectrum are no help either. They don't mind only defending gun ownership rather than focusing on the causes of violence because it draws in votes.
