Actually if we look at the writings of Jesus, believer or not, he was a pretty decent character, and an excellent role model.
I think there is only 2 controversial verses, which can be excused because they are out of character for the other writings.

Compare that to Muhammed who was a murderer, rapist, thief, slave trader, and a slew of other adjectives.
and the orders in the Qur'an to emulate him, makes a volatile mixture.

If I were in Jesus' shoes, being all-knowing, the son of god, knowing exactly where we go when we die, etc. I'd have certainly written a ton of stuff down! Can we all agree that if WE were in Jesus' shoes that we are smart enough and caring enough to have done that? Certainly that would have been what would have been best for the world, and kept untold numbers of people out of "hell", no?
