Hmm.. Sounds like democrats are as anxious now as they were before the civil war, expanding democratic party sympathetic regions to bolster their tyranny. What a great time to, for example, break up Kalifornia into say, 5 states. Or Oregon into 3, or Washington into 2. Why is it always democrats who wish to disenfranchise folks?

If you knew anything about American History or processes, you'd know it's on the sections of states that want to break away to form their own state to initiate the process...

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/West_Virginia_in_the_American_Civil_War

And that still doesn't address the currently stateless residents of DC...

Bummer... you should look into a refund....

Folks who live in DC should have checked the constitution that designated it as a non state. Try actually reading the document. And then get back to us on history.

And let the power grab commence. Surprised that stacking the court isn't on the docket already...

The Democratic Republic of America's new flag with it's 51 stars.

And here is Pelosi fixing our broken constitution.

Only to Republicans would more equal representation be disenfranchisement.

I guess with such unwanted ideals the only way to see them come to light is to force them on the rest of the nation? Sad

The constitution clearly outlines the status of the district. Folks who move there should understand their status as a non state. Why don't you?

Yet the constitution doesn't fix the permanent size of the district.... It's been made smaller in the past and can be done so again...

Nobody is talking about eliminating the District of Columbia.... you do know that, right?

Then let the folks outside of the federal zone be absorbed by Maryland and Virginia. Done.

They could easily shrink the size of the District and still be in line with the constitution.

    Look up retrocession

More representation is never a bad thing, well, except for Republicans. Which I guess is why y’all fight for voter disenfranchisement and hyper partisan gerrymandering while telling others if they don’t like it move.

LOL... no constitutional crisis necessary, but ok... I will venture a guess that the dissolution of the "stateless" DC residents into MD and VA would allow those folks to get out from underneath the shackles their very dubious leadership i the city have attached to them. I suspect folks would rejoice at the chance to become fully represented citizens in those states. And it's possible that those states will very much approve of the increased revenue from their already draconian tax structure. Win win... go big blue...

Do you have any links to show that it has to be contiguous. I looked and really couldn't find much on that other than "10 mile parcel" ?

Republicans want to return the land because think DC would become democratic seats. Their opposition is as transparent as the dems desire to make it its own state.

You dont think Congress has the authority to change DC to a state ? Or am I misreading that ?

ROFL... Of course not as you wouldn't get the additional congressional seats. That is the ONLY reason this is being proposed rather than have either Virginia and Maryland absorb the residence and give the people representation. Again, merely a power grab to ensure democrats have power to years to come.

Nada.... everything they don't want becomes "unconstitutional" in a heartbeat....

Or the old "Take it to our Supreme Court"....

They figure one of those 2 things might work for them in every case...

Because you need a constitutional amendment. It's really basic civics.

That's anti-American. In this country, the people who live there decide, not you.

Or... we can have our 51st state. Followed by a possible 52nd state with PR. And maybe our 53rd state with AS.

Everything except storming the US capital and stealing a US SCOTUS seat is a constitutional crisis to Republicans and I am all out of ‘cares’...

I think the state of the current argument (pun intended) has failed from the usual suspects.

    Let's have some fun....

What would you call this new state?

I'm not a big fan of "State of Washington, Douglass Commonwealth", which I believe is what DC wants...

    Redskins is now available...

Did you figure that out all by yourself? Impressive

I fully support the absolute decimation of the current Republican Party through what ever constitutional means are necessary.
