Let's face it, Democrats wanted this shut-down because they thought it would make Republicans look bad, giving them an advantage in 2014.

And they know that if the Republicans cave, the Tea Party will challenge incumbent Republicans and many will lose their seats.

So the Democrats are deliberately sowing chaos, and they thought that with the mainstream media firmly in their corner, they could blame Republicans for everything and get away with it.

But its not working out that way.

Because when you openly say, "I won't negotiate" and "I won't compromise" it makes you look somewhat like a prick.

So Obama and the Dems are looking bad right now, and it doesn't help matters that they've shut down the World War II memorial and pissed off a bunch of old vets.

    That was just plain dumb.

Republicans want nothing more than complete capitulation to their ridiculous demands. They can go (*)(*)(*)(*) themselves. Hopefully they do that before they (*)(*)(*)(*) the rest of the country over.

    Great thread. Great post!

"...and the optics are what these people care about."

    Absolutely true.

You see it all the time even here at PF with many of the Lib posters.

Watch the video of Marco Rubio speaking to Congress back in July where he states that the Republicans should shut down the government to block Obamacare. Ted Cruz is nodding in the background. NOBODY except for the hard-right is going to believe that this shutdown was caused by the Democrats. Obama won in 2012 so the American people have spoken. If Obamcare proves to be a disaster then the Republicans will be in complete power by 2016 and can get rid of it or change it.

    BREAK TRANSCRIPT

RUSH: This is Paul Bedard in the Washington Examiner. "Romney Winning Independents 59%-35%." That is 24 points. Twenty-four points, Romney up independents! Folks, we're talking major landslide if that's true, and yet it's a CNN poll that shows Democrats plus 11 and the race tied at 49-49. NBC/Wall Street Journal final national poll: Obama 48, Romney 47. Romney leads independents by seven. The sample is Democrat plus two.

I don't know that Republicans talking about it on an open mike [they knew they were] is ground proof that they're winning.

But you appear correct in the assessment that like with Syria, the Obamabots are finding themselves in a new ball game.

In another thread we are discussing the insularity of US politics, how a free enterprise party here came from behind in an stunning, jaw dropping, victory in part for their use of tweets, which is happening here in this new invented "crisis". And in there, we here in Canada are seeing an undercurrent, non-verbal that is indicating disgust with "politics as usual" and are growing fed up with the games...and that's what all of this is.

Above this is a post from an Obamabot with the typical troll visual of "reasonable" demands vs "unreasonable", the stuff that has served the Obama camp so well for five years. However Americans don't seem to care that it has stopped working here...the socialists called the Liberal leader here, a woman, everything from "MILF" to a bad mother and evenb ran an internet attack campaign grossly and sexually critical of, gasp, her bust line. In the exit polls all that mattered a great deal.....as the Liberals INCREASED their seats, the polls showed distrust and disgust for the tactics...and distrust for the individuals associated with the party.

So, I think you're correct in that people are ignoring the same old "it was a spontaneous demonstration" lies and smear tactics, I think they have seen the administration for what it is in the Kerry Keystone Kops handling of the Syria affair [being laughed at at an international event tends to lessen one's influence] and are saying "enough is enough" learn to play nice or you're gone.

Now the challenge is to show which side is "nice", and you can't get there sounding like the terrorists you're allegedly hunting.

The government can stay shut down forever as far as I'm concerned. But I also know this: If Rush says "we are going to win this" there is a 99% chance they are going to lose. His record is worse than those "psychics" in the tabloids.

Actually, I HOPED that prediction of a Romney win was true, but I never bought into it.

However, what does that bit of recent/ancient history have to do with the dangers of ACA to America and how the Democrats are putting their own partisan agenda ahead of the best interests of the country?

If you are looking for ancient predictions to gloat over, why not go back to a victorious Pres. Harry Truman holding up the premature newspaper bearing the headline, "DEWEY DEFEATS TRUMAN?"

That has just as much relevance to today's matters as Romney's bid for the Presidency.

If ONLY we could have you back up that gloat with something of value.

Surely your reputation or your own personal record as a political handicapper means nothing to you. Because you will likely be wrong on this. Yet you won't suffer any ill effects from your woofing.

Seems a shame you can't put your money where your mouth is. Then maybe you wouldn't woof so much or so loudly.

Take a Limbaugh prediction...and a Dick Morris prediction...if they agree something is going to happen?

The exact OPPOSITE will happen. :)

    - - - Updated - - -

So why would you buy into Limbaugh's predictions of "victory"...now???

My record is quite remarkable. And I will be right. I'll remind you when I am. The government will re-open with Obamacare in tact. Rush won't suffer any ill effects, either. He's wrong with remarkable consistency, but the folks in the bubble keep listening. Good for him. Not too many people can get away with it. I give him kudos for tapping into the moron market so well. And I give Hannity credit for taking advantage of the sloppy seconds.

Are you suggesting that the House should be able to just pass those bull(*)(*)(*)(*) right-wing bills w/o the other 2 parties involved?

It requires both houses of Congress and the President's signature (except in the case of a veto override) for a bill to become a law.

The House is just 1/2 of 1 branch out of 3 branches of government.

Boehner has a bill sitting on his desk, passed by the Senate and ready to be signed by the President the same day but he won't bring it up for a vote.

Again, the Republicans and their t-party obstructionists are the ones making THE ONLY DEMAND in this. This is all on them as will the debt limit if they are STUPID enough to continue on their path of destruction.

In the end, both parties will be affected by this shutdown, neither will walk away smelling like a rose. Both are waiting to see who will flinch first. Its all grandstanding at this point.

I'm not a "one source" poster.

I watch and read and listen to many different sources and that's why I believe Rush is right.

    And he is USUALLY right.

Hmmm...I'm less than comfortable with the term, grandstanding* being applied to the GOP in this matter.

The GOP is confidant the majority of the public will eventually consult the records of what has gone on and consult the facts and the rules and finally realize they are right.

It is the Democrats who hope to attract favorable attenion so they can prevail over the GOP who simply wants to do what is best for the long term good for the most number of Americans.

They can only prevail by using emotions and the lack of knowledge of the populace to their advantage.

If truth and facts mean anything in this country the GOP and America will win.

I'm suggesting you read ALL of Thomas Sowell's essay.

    Including the last paragraph.

If you need help understanding it let me know. But not until you've really given it the old college try.

Your argument is analogous to the Gay guy wanting to have unprotected sex because it FEEEELS good.

It might feel good now but it is unquestionably bad news if you are considering the long term health of the short sighted, impulsive, sensation loving patient-to-be.

You have my blessings to sabotage your own future but not mine nor my country's.

If you have the law, pound the law!

If you have the facts, pound the facts!

If you are a Liberal and you have neither the law nor the facts on your side, pound your opponents with ad homs!
