Divider in chief? Biden likens Trump supporters to fascists after promising to unite country

President Biden declared in his inaugural address that the central mission of his presidency was to unify the country.

"Today, on this January day, my whole soul is in this: Bringing America together, uniting our people, and uniting our nation," said Biden. "I ask every American to join me in this cause ... With unity we can do great things."

At another point in his speech, Biden listed an array of challenges facing the country and declared that in order to overcome them, to "restore the soul and to secure the future of America, requires ... that most elusive of things in a democracy: unity."

Biden went on to say "there is no peace, only bitterness and fury" without unity, which he described as "the path forward" in "our historic moment of crisis and challenge."

In short, Biden made a pledge to be America's unifier in chief.

Some 19 months later, on Thursday night, Biden was speaking at a fundraiser for Democrats in Bethesda, Md., an affluent suburb just outside Washington, D.C. At the event, Biden vilified the Make America Great Again movement aligned with former President Trump and his administration as "semi-fascist."

"What we're seeing now is the beginning or the death knell of an extreme MAGA philosophy," Biden reportedly said. "It's not just Trump, it's the entire philosophy that underpins the — I'm going to say something, it's like semi-fascism."…

…The MAGA movement, which has the support of a large segment of the country, especially among conservatives and Republicans, has become synonymous with Trump's political agenda and Trump himself, who received more than 74 million votes in the 2020 presidential election.

It's unclear how Biden likening so many Americans and Trump supporters to fascists fits with his stated mission to unite the country….

Biden as a unifier is a complete and total sick joke. He had every opportunity to do it and yet every time he sided with the far left of his party deciding it was going to be reconciliation 51-50 or nothing on most every key issue. Even the so called bipartisan. Infrastructure bill was severely tilted one way. This latest incident is proof positive that Biden is not a uniter.

 

Biden is a liar. He never intended to unify this country. The only thing he unified the country about is that we as a nation are going in the wrong direction.

 

Lol...no, Biden is the uniter. He's just separating the wheat from the chaff and gathering more and more loyal Americans to his side.
Even trump's most devoted lapdog, Alan Dershowitz, admitted that there was more than enough evidence to indict trump now.

Do you have any idea how little I care about polls two years before the election?

Biden was elected by a majority of voters.

His legitimacy far exceeds that of his predecessor.

 

Why should it bother you? I didn't think you wanted the country to be united.

 

Is Biden talking about the people who committed or celebrated Jan 6 and who like to yell stupid things like "Let's Go, Brandon!" and repeat Trump's pernicious, antidemocratic lie about the 2020 election? Is he talking about RINO politicians who actually voted in Congress to overturn the 2020 election results on no factual basis whatsoever? If so, he's just telling it like it is. The process of healing must begin with the wrong party owning up to its misdeeds and mistakes.

Apologize to Biden for the childish attacks, apologize to your fellow Americans whom you unfairly attack on a daily basis for equally invalid reasons, and then the process of healing and uniting the country can begin in earnest. Do your part.

 

Not anymore. He squandered his opportunity to keep his promise. Now he is the ultimate divider.

 

There will always be different parties and ideas as to what is best for America. Biden is pretending that the other party’s ideals and supporters are illegitimate and not a part of America. That is not how unification happens. He’s not going to beat us into submission to his will.

 

His predecessor is likely running to become his successor so he, his views, and his supporters are every bit as legitimate.

 

Elections are held once every 4 years.

We will talk about this again in 2024.

In the meantime, you can hang on to Trump if you think he'll finally unite Americans.

 

I always want the country to be broadly unified on several key foundational principles. That doesn’t mean we can’t disagree about policy objectives and how to achieve what we believe to be best for our exceptional great nation

 

We will do nothing that you demand. Unity is never achieved by one side bowing down before the other because it will never happen. Unity can only be achieved when MAGA and those who believe in what it stands for are a part of the accepted broad culture of mainstream American politics and economics.

Yet I don't see how calling people names as you often do or posting inaccurate information from websites who do the same meets your above criteria.

 

No. The fact Biden can't get independents and even some democrats to like him.

 

The autocratic movement within the Republican Party is incompatible with the United States. It’s really that simple. It’s unfortunate that some Americans unwittingly identify with it.

 

Biden has been highly effective at dividing. He has that odd and defensive personality and within that behavior, isn't an ounce of a diplomatic uniter. You can always see his defensiveness start to appear when that creepy smile heads up toward his eye on one side only.
I don't imagine his "semi- fascism" comment will age any better than Hillary's "deplorables" comment did.

 

I agree with this. He hid in his basement so much during the campaign. But now, we've all gotten to know Joe Biden pretty well and he's really shown his true (and current) colors.

 

If I were to try to give an honest assessment of the situation, I'd say we've reached the point where each side sees the other as nearly or fully evil - and along with that, each side sees the other as highly autocratic. Further, each side finds it both unfortunate and very damaging that some Americans align with the side they view as the autocratic one.

Sorry, but that lame attempt at moral equivalency completely ignores the unique qualities of trump's crimes against our country.
There is a distinct difference between the antics of typical politicians of all stripes and our usual political bickering and the serious assault on our democracy that trump launched when he lost the election.

He spent months trying to threaten officials, invent votes and incite libelous suspicion about our electoral, intelligence, congressional and judicial systems just to keep himself in power. His actions led to the violent maga riot in the Capitol that made us look like a cheap banana republic to the rest of the world.

Now we discover that he had stolen top secret documents after leaving the White House, including info on our human intel around the world, which, given his character and hatred of our intelligence services, means he was likely to sell them to the highest bidders or hand them over to those who would blackmail him.
I hope that the authorities have the courage to treat trump like the seditious criminal he is in spite of the threats of his maga crowd, and regardless of their ingrained respect for the office of the presidency- something trump never showed.

 

Biden and the secular progressive left have no moral equivalency with Trump or us since they have no moral values other than malevolent evil while we have truth.
