Not long ago guns were kept in the front closet and there was never a problem. The problems are societal and not the fault of the gun. Kids are no longer taught two things in general, respect, and how to handle firearms. Respect has waned with the culture that anything goes and the constant drumbeat from the anti-gun culture has taught many that guns are scary things and that that people cannot be trusted with them.

I have read your views regarding 'criminals'

'The balls to stand up to crime'

This is what the police are for, and as much as some forum members cry foul of the polices role in society. They are paied a fair wage to tackle the scum who have no other way in life but criminality.

And i have to say Hoosier, your view to life will get you killed if you rush in head first to dangerous events.

You seem to have a very paranoied view to your own enviroment but don't believe that everyone lives like you do.

I do not disagree. I keep mine locked up (hand guns) or standing on the floor (long guns) with ammo locked away.

My daughter has had a 22mag since she was 6 and only shot is a few times. It is also locked up.

My boys (4 & 5) are another story. I have to keep the guns away from them. Every child is different. They know I have guns and they will tell me when they see one that they do not touch them or they could die.

You couldn't be more wrong. The police usually are not there when a crime happens, and as it is, Police are not there to protect you but to maintain order and take notes after a crime happens.

When a crime is imminent, the police are just minutes away. I talked to a cop the other day that was out for a run. He noticed a house in his neighborhood with a door open. He called the police and they came...25 minutes later. We were talking about carry and he had absolutely no problem with it.

When you give up your right to self defense, don't be surprised at the outcome. You are the first line of defense.

It is very easy to say, if a criminal event happens that people would be brave and not call the police.

In a uk newspaper a few days ago. A large dog went nuts, It mauled 5 police, 3 seriously hurt, before they shot it.

Now obviously it is not criminal per say as an armed intruder but one example of an event, when the general public would fear for their own safety and their childrens to let the police handle it.

They are payed for such dangerous work, you are not. They are also covered by expensive health and life insurance if it tragically goes wrong

Silly example. People are instructed to call the police first, "if they can". Second, insurance does not protect you from violence, only the results of violence or to pay your survivors if you can no longer collect.

Exactly, people call the police first, which is my point. they don't run screaming with gun in hand into a unknown dangerous event, with the possiblity of being killed.

Correct me if i am wrong but only a tiny minority would do that. Or have done that.

There have been a couple of instances recently, recorded on a 911 call, where a woman (one with a kid) was on the line with police while a stalker has broken into their house and came looking for them. At the end of the call, the police are on their way but by that time the stalker has already broken into the bedroom and the woman blew em away with the police still on the way.

When seconds count, the police are only minutes away.

The issue is (for me), if there is a home intrusion I have a choice. I can call the police and sit back while they rape my wife and children and steal everything or I can stop it. Did you see that thread about that punk beating that 90 something YO man to death and raping his 80 or 90 something YO wife?

There is no obligation of the police force to prevent crime. They try and are a deterrent but they can not prevent it.

It is every persons obligation to take care of themselves. It could be steal doors and bars on the windows. It could be a 6' fence with razor wire and it could be a gun. I have a gun and enjoy shooting. I never really want to use it for any other reason and make no mistake I will if they are posing a threat I can not handle with my hands. Crap that is another thing. I have a history of doing things with my hands and the fact is if I kill someone with a gun it was self defense but if I do it with my hands it is murder.

My daughter's ex could be a problem and I supplied her with a 38 and she got a carry license. Even without the 38, she was a Marine so could be considered dangerous even without it. The problem is her ex put out a contract on someone once and went to jail for it and my daughter, for good reason, does not trust what he will do.

That is a different story but I don't think a gun is the best solution for that. But there again the best solution is illegal:(

It's not about everyone having guns.

It's about everyone having the right to have a gun.

Most of the anti-gun arguments are based on pure ignorance. Those folks should focus more on the criminal, instead of the gun.

It is easier to focus on the gun. Liberal policies are part of the crime issue. So divert from the real issues and focus on the non issue to move the nation left. Bait and switch.

We have a drug problem in this country and we go soft on many punishments for crime. Oh I am not saying they are not sentenced but inside it is easier than it should be. They have rights you know. Well instead of reformatting the prisons to make them less hospitable they want to blame the guns.

Drug violence happens without guns and drugs are the issue. The guns are not the issue.

Gangs in schools are the issue not guns.

    It is not 'ignorance'

But indifference. I would say most people don't care about this sort of thing, even in the usa. They go about their life, worrying about more important things.

As usual the vocal minority make the most noise in this case firearms. But apart from forums, where guns are discussed at length. Who really bothers with them to that extent in real life.

Huge amounts of data were talked of, regarding this topic and the original topic but a more simple version was not dealt with.

A poll on this forum. It would be interesting to view. How many forum members are actually gun conscious in real life and not just forum waffling.

We have more than one right, friend. We also have a right to free speech which covers a huge area. Part of this right includes free access to controversial information. Some of which might shake your own preconceived notions.

This thread is about that information, like it or not. If you don't want to play,... then don't.

That proof has already been provided you, friend. The question now is YOUR evidence that supports YOUR position. Trying to wiggle out of this now?

Really? It's the evil "anti-gun culture" that has allowed kids to kill each other?......Really?

Come on back to reality, fella.

I just disagree with that. The sum of the facts as presented in anti gun studies do not support the argument that more guns equates to more crime. Yes they may focus on one thing or the other and yes I agree more guns = a higher homicide rate but again the guns are not legal in the hands of those most people using them.

Those perpetrating the majority of the violence in the streets are generally not even supposed to have weapons.

I will go as far to say that the preposterous number of illegally obtained in the United States does have a positive influence on the outcome of violent crimes where the crime may not have have had the same outcome if a firearm were not involved.

Now when I think about the statement I just made I must also consider the fact that most of those killed have a negative value to society and their death saves money.
