And all those northern states elected him based on his pledge blacks would never be the equal of whites politically or socially and never hold office and never be allowed to vote.
So you claimed but he was going to give blacks former slaves the votes and that is what set off Booth to go ahead with his murder plots costing Lincoln his life. Once more it would be wonderful if Trump and his followers would know a little more about US history.
And he was elected by the Northern states to insure black's would be kept in their place and even shipped back to Africa if ever freed. Then he saw he needed them as political pawns. And Booth had long plotted against Lincoln in order to avenge the Confederacy and his invasion of it.
I guess I could suggest some history books for you to read concerning that period as Lincoln was going to begin by granting the vote to those blacks who had been willing to fight for the union an at half paid at that compare to whites. In fact, not a small percent of black soldiers refused any pay for fighting and dying for the union instead of taking the insult of receiving half paid. Yes indeed once America had been great but it was not due to the great grandfathers of the racists that are now supporting Trump.
I know quite well how the Gettysburg address came about and his need to use the slaves as political pawns to keep up support for the war. The fact remains he won the President with the support of the Northern states on the platform that the slaves would never be equal to whites politically or socially. You know that myth about the North having the higher moral authority.
It was Lincoln who sent his armies to take and defeat the Confederacy, the South did not want war nor to defeat and conquer the North. It just wanted tto be left alone and could have been an alley of the United States And the fact remains the Northern states elected a President who swore that blacks would never be the equal of whites politically or socially.
Not until Lincoln declared war and attacked. The South did not pursue a war. And it doesn't alter the fact you are desperate to avoid addressing. Lincoln was elected by the North because he promised the negro would never be the equal of all the white Northerners.
Have you ever heard a Republican claim that the cheapness of produce is worth the exploitation of people of color? Because every time we mention enforcing our immigration laws, liberals scream about who's going to pick the lettuce, the strawberries, or the grapes, and how it will increase the price of produce. Almost exactly like they did in 1861.
During his presidency, Obama tried to end all foreign tax shelters. But Trump and his crowd preserved that form of corporate/elitist welfarism.
You do have a valid point there - when it is pointed out that many policies or reforms attributed to Obama or Clinton were actually started by Reagan or Bush, the far right radicals immediately accuse the latter of being RINOs who were "too liberal".
Would theses ideals include relocating all black people to outside the continental US to prevent race mixing? Lincoln believed blacks were inferior and not compatible with American culture, and though he saw slavery as cruel, he saw blacks mixing with whites in any capacity (including slave/master) as worse. Granted, this was a common sentiment in the north- now defunct pseudoscience like phrenology drove much of this sentiment among 'intellectuals'. But it was a driving force behind much of his politics on the issue. He also destroyed our currency. Much of the power the banks hold over our financial system was established under Lincoln during the civil war.
I'm not very well versed in these matters but my understanding is that Lincoln's handling of our currency in the ACW brought us into the modern system of currency we use today and prevented us from ruining ourselves trying to pay off all out debt in gold. Mexico did that and their economy has not recovered since.
1) I had heard that Lincoln wanted to send the ex-slaves back to Africa. But, I wonder if he had a change of heart. After all, he allowed Blacks to serve with the Union forces. He created the Emancipation Proclamation; limited though it was. He wanted Blacks to be able to vote. I believe the anti-slavery people had a big influence on him. 2) There was a lot of controversy with European powers attempting to dominate the American banking system. The current banking system we have wasn't established under Lincoln, it was established under Woodrow Wilson in 1913.
Rearranging the decks of the Titanic, "Please remember that this ship cannot sink as it is impregnable except to icebergs."
"Lincoln never supported treating Black slaves equal to Whites". After the Civil War Blacks were no longer legally slaves. The 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments gave them the rights of citizenship (on paper anyway). Lincoln was a smart politician. He knew what to say and when to say it. That's why he was elected.
