Your Socialist Surveillance Number ... ooops "Social Security Number" IS your National ID number. Too many people never read George Orwell's book 1984 and contemplated what he was warning us of.

I don't support such a proposition as Benjamin Franklin once observed: "He who would give up essential Liberty for the promise of temporary Safety deserves neither Liberty nor Safety."

Social Security cards used to say 'not to be used for identification'. Don't believe they still do....

That’s what I don’t understand, we already have a national ID — albeit a very insecure one that is not being used as intended.
Why not make one that protects our identity, is secure, and can be used to reduce instances of fraud.

What is the difference between a social security number and a national ID number (besides obvious security features)?

I support the idea of a free federal ID card that can be used for voting and other identification purposes. I don't think it should NOT be mandatory but I think it should be free and available to all that want one. This should address the liberal concern that other forms of ID are too expensive for some voters to acquire.

Yes, I support it. And, in fact, I'm going to get it.

And here in New York state, when my driver's license expires next year, I'm going to have to pay much money to get the driver's license which doubles as a Federal Real ID.

So, I'm almost ready to get it and pay for it.

    After some cerebration :hmm:

YES to National ID as well as
    registered "residence" address.
    common in many Euro Nations

If you don't have one, the "Federals"
    will find one for you.
YOU WANT TO LEAVE IT TO THE STATES?
    No disagreement.

Yes to ID inclusive of "certified" residence address!

I have a thought for those who don't want an ID card because they fear that it's the "mark of the beast" from Revelations in the Bible. My thought is this: seeing how the mark of the beast is marked on the right hand or forehead, would you feel better if the ID is placed on the left hand or your butt??? :D

I'm not holding still for that. Of course you might take the "mark of the beast".

The idea is the "centralization and control of power". It has been foretold. Even if it wasn't..... individuals should fear it. Why not use a brand....like with cattle? Sheep to the slaughter!

Do you really think you will Democrats to vote yes on bill requiring an ID to vote? I do not. We have seen this already with states passing id requirements for voting.

A single number that contains all the details of your life could NEVER be secure. All that is known about you can now be accessed via your SSN. It's pure madness and total ignorance to have every Tom, Slick and Harry wanting your "social."

Send me your name and your SSN. Within 24 hours I can tell you more about you than you can tell you about you. I was a professional paper tripper back in the 1970s and followed the issue up to the present time. Armed with a person's name and SSN, you can determine their birthday, past and present addresses, places they've worked, education, medical records, dental records, criminal records, names and addresses of relatives, names and ages of their children. It can then be used to find out about your marriages, divorces, the houses you own or rent, ... even what you think politically. Think about it the next time someone asks your for your "social."

It’s because that system was never designed to be secure. It was supposed to basically be a insurance account number.
    We need a secure version

You can get all of that information with their phone number alone now with free sites online. The only item you will have an issue tracking down is the SSN but it isn’t because that number is secure but rather because it isn’t allowed to be on these sites.

The states that passed id laws were offering free ids to people that could not afford them. Pass a national voter id law in conjunction with a national id and maybe I might be ok with it. But it simply would not happen.

I would support it, as a drivers license it pretty much basically already that

as for voting, no more id should be required for voting in person then is needed to vote by mail like Trump did

I would support as long as all absentee ballots needed to be notarized by a notary public

I was assuming the national id would replace the drivers license, if not, no I would not support it
