pallets of cash in the wee hours of the night before any Hostages would be released, knowing some or all of it would be funneled to terror activity. You guys will spin all kinds of excuses for that...and try to tar Trump for returning a Salute??

    Pulease.

You should have just stuck with your gut feeling that at least it's better than bowing and kissing feet like Obama, before you went full-on crazed denial. That was dumb. It's not just a picture; there's a full video of the incident:

    https://www.nbcnews.com/nightly-new...shows-trump-saluting-nk-general-1255732291966

It's clearly a salute, and I don't think it's anything that needs to be criticized or denied. I think it's a big part of what diplomacy is all about and a deal can be made with NK that guarantees their denuclearization, than saluting a general from a despotic military is plenty worth it.

A North Korean General render a salute to a superior (Trump)
Under military regulations as Commander in Chief of the U.S. military Trump returned the salute.

It was the North Korean General who saluted Trump and following military protocol, Trump returned the salute.

Since 1981 the POTUS is probably the only civilian Commander in Chief in the world who is authorized to return a salute.

Anyone who doesn't like it, travel to Simi Valley and take it up with Ronald Reagan.

Thank you for the correction. Yes, "returning a salute" is the more accurate description of what happened. And to watch how awkward it was, from both ends, only further demonstrates how difficult it was for both men to do it.

Trump is not his superior, Trump falls no where in his chain of command.

I saw the entire video so know what happened. The media distorted what happened using a photo frozen to make it seem Trump acted as were the General his superior. Trump tried to shake hands, said General gave a salute, Trump returned salute then shook hands.

    In rank he is.

It's a military thing going back for thousands of years.

    Excerpt from:
    WAR DEPARTMENT PAMPHLET NO. 21-7
    [IMG]

Do you want to touch on U.S. Navy customs and traditions that covers kneeling or bowing from the waist to a monarch (King or Queen) ?

Americans never kneel or bow at the waist to any King or Queen and every monarch world since America was founded are aware not not to expect Americans bowing in front of them.

Those on the left who distorted the truth and reported fake news probably never served in the military well at least in the U.S. military and don't know what the military protocols, customs, traditions and regulation are.

U.S.Navy and Marine Corps customs and traditions are based upon the Royal Navy customs and traditions.
U.S. Army customs and traditions are based upon German/Prussian military customs and tradition.

Why do Russian warships when passing a U.S. warship at sea salute the U.S. warship and the U.S. warship returns the salute in respect of the Russian warship ?

Nether is the enemy during war and POW's salute enemy officers and enemy officers return the salute.

Third time I had to post the photo below.

It's 1944, Germany and the Allies at war shooting at each other.

Notice American officers saluting German officers and the two of the German officers are returning the salute using their Bellamy salute.

Nobody was surrendering, just exchanging POW's on the battlefield.

Hitler was at Rastenburg, Prussia and FDR was smoking cigarettes and drinking Johnny Walker upstairs in the White House.

Hitler believed he was above military protocol and rarely returned the salute when saluted. It all depended what kind of mood Hitler was in.

U.S. military regulations back in 1944 stated for FDR as CnC would have to wear a military uniform to return the salute.

Are you referring to rendering a salute or returning a salute ?

To the best of my knowledge, since 1981 the POTUS is the only head of state authorized to return a salute when saluted while wearing civilian clothing.

The Emperor of Imperial Japan and Tojo's representative were being saluted. But Tojo was not a head of state.

Gen. Douglas MacArthur was Truman's representative.

    Twice they were saluted.

They were piped aboard the USS Missouri and saluted and were saluted again as they departed the USS Missouri.

What every American should be proud of is that Commander in Chief Trump rendered a proper military salute when he returned the salute. Trump's salute is a proper U.S. Army salute.

Now President Reagan's salute was your typical snappy U.S. Army officers salute. Executed very well.
(FYI: President Reagan was the last POTUS to have served in the U.S. horse cavalry.)

President G.W. Bush's salutes were typical USAF airmen salutes. They wouldn't pass in the U.S. Army and in the Marine Corps it would get you 100 push-ups.

    President Clinton's salutes were :roflol:

Obama's salutes were always an embarrassment to America. I've seen Girl Scouts render a better salute than Obama.

I doubt any foreign general thought that Clinton or Obama were worth saluting.

A foreign military officer followed military protocol that has existed for hundreds of years and saluted a superior and President Trump knowing something about military protocol, customs and tradition and U.S. military regulations returned the salute.

You should be proud that Trump executed a perfect military salute that didn't embarrassed America like Obama and Clinton always did.

Actually JFK Jr. salute was a liberal salute.

Raise your hand up to your brow. Keep the outer edge of the hand barely canted downward so that neither the back of the hand nor the palm is clearly visible from the front. The hand and wrist are straight, the elbow inclined slightly forward, and the forearm is at a 45-degree angle to the ground. Keep your fingers and thumb straight and in line with each other.
[When wearing glasses, with no headgear or headgear without a visor: This time, you will touch the tip of your right forefinger to your glasses. Touch the part of the frame where the temple piece of the frame meets the right edge of the right brow.
Modify the salute as appropriate for the headgear you are wearing. While the basic steps of the salute are quite similar, there are some small adaptations that you should make depending upon whether you are wearing headgear or glasses.
      • When wearing headgear with a visor (with or without glasses): At the command "arms," you will salute with your right hand, touching the tip of your index finger to the rim of the visor, slightly above your right eye.
      • If you are not wearing glasses and are wearing no headgear, or headgear without a visor, you will use the same precise movements, only you will touch your finger to the forehead, beside the outer edge of your right eyebrow.[2]
      • When wearing glasses, with no headgear or headgear without a visor: This time, you will touch the tip of your right forefinger to your glasses. Touch the part of the frame where the temple piece of the frame meets the right edge of the right brow
