benefit lawful gun owners in any way shape or form? I note that every pro gun group I can think of-NRA, Gun Owners of America, the Second Amendment Foundation, Buckeye Firearms Association, etc opposes mandatory registration while all the major league anti gun groups (whether they admit to being gun banners or mere "gun safety" advocates) including Brady, Giffords, Everytown etc supports registration.

IMHO, registration is of little to no value. Most advocates of registration somehow think that criminal shooter is going to register his gun and then clumsily drop at the crime scene.

Registration serves no purpose whatsoever. It's easily circumvented, and no criminal is going to bother registering theirs anyway.....

criminals cannot even be prosecuted-due to the fifth amendment-for ignoring a registration law.

The only thing registration will accomplish is pave the way to all out confiscation.

How would the federal government knowing what guns I have benefit me in any way whatsoever as a citizen? Why do they need that information? What else should they keep track of that I own? How about my TV do they want the serial number to that? The fridge? The coffee maker?

I've said it before I'll say it again. The best defense against any sort of government crackdown on private gun ownership is the fact that most guns are unregistered meaning they have no idea who has what. As it should be. The only people who need to know if I have any guns are people I choose to tell. And I choose to not include the federal government in that list even if they get a wild hair one day and decide to make it mandatory. Can't make anybody register what you don't know they have and I don't own any guns so I have nothing to register.

If being able to keep your gun is a benefit then yes. When handguns were banned in D.C. in the 1970s people who had registered their handguns prior to the ban were allowed to keep them.

that's sort of fake reason though. BTW Cincinnati tried to do the same thing with "assault weapons" around 1989. Less than ten percent were registered and when someone was finally arrested for having an unregistered "assault weapon" the judge said he was dismissing the case-soon afterwards the state of Ohio preemption act erased that stupid law

Why are lawful gun owners in the US afraid of registering their legally-owned guns?

why should they when lists can be hacked and they derive no benefit from doing so

and when every group that wants to ban guns wants registration-WTF would any gun owner do something that their enemies want?

Why do Democrats keep using the word "ban" and why do they keep referring to the "common sense" laws of countries that confiscated guns?

And, who really trusts the government to maintain and protect the list from unlawful or politically useful uses? Including government entities themselves.

are you able to actually answer my question? you're the one promoting registration in OUR country and you cannot tell me a single good reason for us to do something. I think Aesop's fox is in the building.

those who say registration is a benefit if it allows an owner to keep his guns in the face of a confiscation scheme is akin to saying giving a robber your wallet so he won't beat you to death or shoot you.

that's ridiculous. it's a clear and fair question. what benefit does mandatory federal registration do for AMERICAN gun owners.
