Does Sanders really desire the nomination?

After last night's primaries in Florida, Illinois, and Arizona (Ohio postponed its primary, due to the coronavirus), Joe Biden has increased his lead over Bernie Sanders. It now stands at 1,151 delegates to 874. (Some sources may have a slightly different total; but the basic point is the same.)

From this, it does seem reasonable to conclude that Joe Biden is in the process of getting what he desires, whereas Bernie Sanders is not.

But us this truly the case?

Is it at least possible that Bernie Sanders does not especially want the Democratic nomination for the presidency--let alone the presidency itself--but only wishes to push the Democratic Party further to the left, so that it closely resembles, oh, say, the Social Democrats of Germany?

In that event, both Joe Biden and Bernie Sanders may be getting exactly what they wish.

Sanders seems more interested in his message than in himself. I think he'd rather convert than rule, so as to rule by the right of ascension than by the power of free agency and democratic elections. Unfortunately his message is antithetical to freedom.

Bernie is an example of what happens to a far-left radical activist when he gets old - and doesn't have the sense to stop protesting. He just found a national stage to spew his radical nonsense and probably enjoyed every minute.

    Bernie needs to get out.

Maybe AOC can talk some sense into him.

At least he has values that he sticks with and believes in — doesn’t seem to be a strong suit in other politicians.

Yeah, his sincerity and fidelity to his beliefs make him likable as a man. Too bad he's a communist. Otherwise he'd make a great American.

Will you just bloody STAWP? There ARE no communists anymore. Even the Chinese Communists are really just very authoritarian State Capitalists and Bernie was never even a socialist (whatever he may say. Bernie follows the economies of the Scandinavians for the most part who are actually non-authoritarian State Capitalists, or Social Democrats.

It would be really nice to vote for him as he does exhibit the "sincerity and fidelity to his beliefs" that you so admire and if any other person but Trump was President it might be an idea. But the specter of 4 more years of Trump is just too terrifying to even think about. Maybe in 2024. He'll only be 82 and age is just a number.

You don’t even understand what that word means.
I am sorry basic literacy has failed so many Americans, thus we find ourselves in the situation we are in today with profound amounts of sheer ignorance and examples of the Dunning–Kruger effect being commonplace.

And having values that he sticks by is not a good thing when the values are so bad. He's been peddling the same harmful nonsense for decades.

You think it's wise to vote for a man who encourages unskilled, uneducated foreigners who are unable to support their own families to come here in violation of the law and then promise that law-abiding American taxpayers will provide them free health insurance and free college educations? Or....someone who said that he would STILL keep the borders open (in last week's Town Hall) even in the midst of the virus because the virus is already in the country?

Sanders is someone who is so deranged by his far-left radical ideals that he wants to bring down American, flood it with people who can't support their families, and, now, on top of that, continue to allow in foreigners despite the virus crisis here in this country. His underlying motto is: I will stand with non-Americans and illegal immigrants, even at risk of death to Americans."

You like to confuse the term. Collective power likes to rob freedom from the individual. That is the direction Bernie, along with Communism, goes.

Yeh, us having the same benefits and protections that every other first world nation on earth has is “so bad”...

You know what is harmful; scrapping environmental regulations, allowing corporations to use tax breaks to buy back stock putting themselves in need of a bailout instead of relying on emergency cash reserves, bombing innocent families and children overseas, handouts to billionaires and the military complex while many Americans are food insecure, families losing everything they have over an unexpected medical issue.

    Priorities, get some.

Again, you have no idea what that word means, it is just a cute string of terminology that you have seen repeated enough via your masters that you have begun regurgitating it.

No, he is just positioning himself for another "summer camp" perhaps in a tropical paradise this time, like thousands of other Vermonters.

Can't we just love Bernie without electing him, and leave it at that? And what is so terrifying about Trump except to terrorists and unequal trade?

Bernie will make a Great President and I'll support and vote for him. In 2024.

The only kind of terrorist that Trump scares are little kids crying for their parents as the ICE drags them off to cages. Most of the trade he approves of is highly unequal, with his cronies on the upside and the American consumer considerably down. He terrifies anyone who thinks elections in this country are how we should choose Presidents and who doesn't agree that our President should be a dictator for life.

Is Germany an unfree autocracy? Do people in Norway and Denmark groan under the rule of tyrants?

Trump has actually done or supported each and every one of those things. When you call people "commies" you're talking about something that certainly doesn't exist now and probably never existed then, as you are viewing it.

Where has he said he wants foreigners who can't support their own families to come here at all?

AFAIK you still can't collect direct welfare if you are not an American citizen. If you think you can please cite proof of that.

He said at the debate that he wants to give illegal aliens free college educations and health insurance (paid for of course by American taxpayers). And considering that the average education of the illegal aliens streaming over our southern border is somewhere around 8th grade, and that they lack skills, these are people who are not able to support their families. That's why Americans are providing free lunch and free breakfast to their kids. Is that not a type of welfare? Why in the world did (note past tense) we have a presidential nominee who thinks it's a wise campaign strategy to promise foreigners in this country illegally that American VOTERS will provide them incentives to come here, and make it even better: health care AND free college!

There needs to be a requirement that foreigners who come here have to show that they can support their families - and that includes providing meals for their own children.

I like to imagine Twilight Zone scenarioslike:
Biden goes missing from home and they cannot find him until he is seen selling hotdogs in San Francisco as a homeless man

Trump and Pence announce they are gay and will be married by the Pope at the Vatican during which ceremony a UFO lands and 2 unknown gender type aliens demand they stop in order to prevent a catastrophic timeline from beginning.

Bernie Sanders is elected by glitch in the voting machines caused by hackers and his 1st executive order made during his inauguration speech is to arrest Hillary Clinton,Chuck Schumer and Nancy Pelosi for treason, but at that very moment he burns up in a ball of flame and only a small pile of ashes remain at the podium

Can you name any serious candidate who ever won a major party primary who was more communistic and admired the communistic principles?

    Communism ≠ socialism democratic socialism.

And to answer your question, in recent memory only one person has admired dictators and referenced that they should be able to hold office longer than the Constitution allows — I’m sure you know who I’m talking about. It isn’t a Democrat.
