Trump utterly failed the "looking presidential" strategy in the last debate, not helped by his continued bizarre behavior post debate.

Since he failed at being presidential, he and his campaign are doing the one thing he does best: Going low, and going mean.

In the last couple days the campaign and Donald have started attacking Clinton on claims against her husband, digging up the claims against him we heard ad naseum when he was president. I expect full on smear mode from now into the next debate.

Will this tactic work? It worked in the Republican campaign where Donald called his opponents "Lying Ted" and "Little Marco" and made repeated false accusations about them.

OTOH, Republicans used these tactics full bore when Bill Clinton was president, even starting an impeachment proceeding, but it backfired. Clinton not only was not impeached, but left office with one of the highest approval ratings of any president.

What do you think? Will the go low go mean strategy work for Donald?

The USA is becoming extremely dumbed-down. Seriously, which presidential candidates talked about (*)(*)(*)(*) like this decades ago? Leave it to the right wing to come up with a candidate even more intellectually challenged than Dubya and pretend that this twittering fool Trump is a viable candidate for the highest office in the land. He actually makes Dubya seem razor sharp and bright by comparison. The conspiracy nuts and birthers have dragged the country down to a level of stupidity and ignorance that is totally embarrassing. Trump is looking forward to his upcoming reality show that will likely premier within a month or so after the election and the useful idiots that supported him as if he was qualified for the presidency will tune in and remain his loyal useful idiot fans, never acknowledging how he sold them a bad bill of goods and made the USA's election process look like a bizarre circus freak show to the rest of the civilized world.

I almost feel sorry for Conway. She has to try to defend the indefndable, which she does by dodging questions and immediately trying to attack Clinton regardless of what is asked about Donald.

I saw a clip from the "View" in which she was asked about why Donald is not releasing his tax records, and Conway said it was because of the audit, which prompted Whoopi Goldberg to blurt out what every American (except the depolorables in Donald's camp) was thinking: "BULL!"

Too bad more reporters don't express that assessment.

    - - - Updated - - -

So do you think his low and mean strategy will work or backfire?

You shouldn't feel sorry for her. She knows what she is doing and what she signed on for and is being well compensated.

    #1. going low will backfire.

#2. the RNC will get on Trump's case, again.

#3. if Trump keeps low, and doesn't snap back, more GOPers will call for Hillary to win and a "real" GOPer to run in 2020.

The kind that are reduced to abject begging Trump to listen to sense? HE tarnishes the reputation of all that deal with him.

Trump, is a hot air balloon, in many respects. All the people he has hanging on the basket for the ride, are BALLAST. And Trump will throw them off one by one, as needed.

YOUR TIME WILL COME TO BE set free.

It will be interesting to see if even Trump can go lower than Hillary.

I think it will backfire. Trump should see from the debate fallout that people want specifics on what matters in their own lives, not how much he can counterpunch. The only people that care about Bill Clinton's infidelity are already in Trump's camp. Besides, it's not like Trump has clean hands when it comes to being faithful. Trump's infidelity is just as documented as Bill Clinton's. The hypocrisy will be apparent and won't draw in undecided voters. If he really wanted to run a more effective campaign, he'd talk about the issues. Instead, he talks about everything else but the issues.

That's a good point. Folks in glass houses shouldn't throw stones. But I don't think Donald will abide by that conventional wisdom.

Which is why I question Trump's MOTIVES. I feel he may SIMPLY be consolidating his base, to AUDIENCE. For purposes other than running for president. Citing JUSt what you offer.

If Trump is SO stinkin egregious, that he is rode out on a rail, that IS enough drama till he retires as an entertainer.

Well, there's no doubt that with Roger Ailes and Roger Stone as the Trump whisperers, there's certainly a possibility of a new television program, if not network in the future.

He's down 6 points on the RCP average polls, and has utterly failed at being presidential.

So as predicted, he is going low and going mean. "The shackles are off" as Donald says.

I think his mean spirited personal insults will score well with the "deplorables" in his base. But I don't see it winning him points with the decent folks out there.

The hysterical reality tv performer, by lashing out in far too many directions at once, is allowing himself to be distracted from his feuding with beauty pageant contestants, maligning gold star families, disparaging veterans suffering from PTSD, and his other causes célèbres.

However, the prognosis is encouraging. Very soon, he is expected to be in complete remission in regard to his acute political affliction, and will be able to pamper himself with his "Trump® News Nutwork".

The numbers now show Hillary with a substantial lead. Many conservative Republicans continue to abandon the sinking Republican ship:

‘Unendorse this human garbage’: Republican woman quits party in astonishing anti-sexism tweet storm

Wisconsin Republican activist’s tweets went viral on Tuesday after she lashed out at GOP leaders for enabling Donald Trump’s sexism.

In a series of 17 tweets, Marybeth Glenn said that she was leaving the GOP because because party leaders had refused to revoke their endorsement of Trump after a leaked Access Hollywood video appeared to show him bragging about sexual assaults.

The reality tv performer is "losing it" in more ways than one.

He has now driven Ohio into Clinton's column, and is hard at work on Iowa and Arizona.

    http://projects.fivethirtyeight.com/2016-election-forecast/?ex_cid=rrpromo#plus

(There is a rumour that the scarce Trump Campaign Headquarters are rebranding themselves "NAMBLA" recruitment centres to avoid the public wrath the former now provokes.)

No it wont work. Come election day hillary will win with one single vote if necessary. Trump will not be allowed to be elected. ask yourself who regulates the election.... the government ...... who legitimizes the results..... the MSM.

Does anyone actually think they can be trusted at this point? all one has to do is look at the democratic primaries and all the shenanigans of our entire justice system for which there is no over site outside of the same people who are corrupting it.

It makes as much sense as Hillary claiming the best regulation for corruption on Wallstreet is for Wallstreet to regulate itself.

The wonder is, why don't more do the same???

If the Republicans were the party of "principle" and of "moral, ethical, and Christian values" like they always claimed to be, they would abandon the direction their leadership has taken. Their failure to do so proves they stand for no such ideals.

You're right. I don't trust the government or the media.

However, I trust them a hell of a lot more than the guy who is described by described by leading conservatives and members of his own Party [/B]as "utterly amoral," a "pathological liar" "fraudster," “narcissist" "phony" "dangerous national security risk" "con man" "national embarrassment" who is "wholly unprepared to be president." Who has made millions from schemes defrauding and screwing thousands. Who has zero experience in government or foreign affairs. Who has repeatedly demonstrated his racist, xenophobic, misogynistic, mean spirited vengeful disposition. Whose only economic plan involves trillions in tax cuts for the richest. Who's the biggest flip-flopper since the invention of the windshield wiper, and makes John Kerry look like the rock of Gibraltar. Whose penchant for shooting from the hip, and inability to control his reaction to every perceived slight, makes him a loose cannon, and that is a dangerous trait in a president. Who is ignorant of basic issues, and has zero experience with government, which shows in his comments. And above all, who is a serial, pathological liar on a level we've never seen in this level of politics.

Does anyone actually think Donald can be trusted at this point? All one has to look at is what he say, what he does, and his policies, and can you imagine what he would be like with the power of the presidency?

If you ever study marketing, brand identity can be a very powerful thing. People identify themselves with a certain brand and then internalize that in justifying their beliefs and actions. To get them to admit they are wrong about their brand is to get them to admit their own identity has been flawed, a very difficult thing to do without a major revelation like this woman experienced.
