Donald Trump said that he pleaded the Fifth Amendment’s protection against self incrimination as he was deposed on Wednesday as part of New York Attorney General Letitia James’ civil investigation into the Trump Organization.

In a statement, Trump denied wrongdoing and said, “I once asked, ‘If you’re innocent, why are you taking the Fifth Amendment?’ Now I know the answer to that question. When your family, your company and all the people in your orbit have become targets of unfounded, politically motivated Witch Hunt supported by lawyers, prosecutors, and the Fake News Media, you have no choice.”

Trump doesn't want to incriminate himself.

So instead of lying because he know he's guilty, he prefers to hide behind the 5th.

And this is the kind of man that MAGA admires.

Government always has the onus to prove the crime. Not the person being interrogated by the prosecutor. Or, is this another one of those rights that you don't agree with?

Ok, so he changed his mind. He's watched the FBI and prosecutors invent process crime throughout his presidency. What did you expect him to do?

    LoL.

    He changed is mind....

    Please.

    This is another conspiracy.

There's a new one every week.

But that Trump committed a criminal act is impossible.

    He's the messiah.

I am honestly baffeled by the MAGA cult. NOTHING is good for them unless it's Trump. It's really starting to get a bit seriously scary with the complete denial of reality.

Not only is Crooked Donnie a crook, but a violent one as well as noted by the women that he sexually assaulted and his lack of concern of weapons being brought into his 1//6/2001 rally to lie about his undocumented claims of massive voter fraud during the 2020 presidential election.

Hmm.. So translation of your post, you're disappointed that the FBI or in this case the federal prosecutor could't contrive a process crime because there wasn't actually a crime for them to prosecute. And now, you're disappointed because... Trump? That seems to wrap this one up for me.

So, if you're a federal prosecutor, you should be able to make your case of criminal act absent the individual self incriminating, right? And if you can't, you aren't a very good prosecutor. Just saying.

    I am not disappointed.

    On the contrary.

A former POTUS, questioned by the justice of the country he led, pleading the 5th amendment to not incriminate himself.

    That's the man you worship.

Better to invent another conspiracy than to assume the reality.

He does realize that this is a CIVIL case and that pleading the 5th CAN be used against him in a civil case . . . right?

Hmm.. you say so... The concept is still the same, or don't you think folks should have the right to not incriminate themselves?

Sure they should have the right, does that mean we can’t make conclusions based on that?

I do believe they have that right. In a criminal trial, that can't and shouldn't be used against them. In a civil grand jury, it can. This is the latter.

OF COURSE he did there is a criminal investigation going by another prosecutor. You don't have to give testimony for or against yourself to the government, that Bill of Rights thingy, and I am quite sure the first person who would get a transcript of the deposition would be the criminal prosecutor. They can't get him to testify in the criminal case so HEY file a civil lawsuit and subpoena him to testify in it.

I have ever confidence that were you in the same boat your lawyer would instruct you to take the 5th don't walk into a trap.

Oh well if you can't make him testify against himself in a criminal investigation just charge him civilly into a deposition. Your rights apply in both scenarios and prosecutors should not be attempting end runs around those rights.
