Just looked it up. No license needed in Colorado for pedal-assist electric bikes. There are 3 classes. Class 3, which I'm interested in, has a motor cut-off once 28 mph is reached. E-Bikes can have a maximum wattage motor of 750 Watts. So beyond that, I believe would have to be licensed.

You can probably go on Amazon and buy whatever kind of sticker you want.

Within reason.... Most cops don't know their ass from a hole in the ground when trying to assess a two-wheeled vehicles capabilities

The good thing that can be said of electric bikes is that the cost of the vehicle, which is largely due to the cost of the large battery bank, is very much dependent on the size and weight of the vehicle. So when we are talking about a very small vehicle like a bike, electric is not prohibitively expensive.

And I would also say if engine noise can be eliminated, that can be a big advantage when riding on a bike.

If you went Price shopping for some of those ebikes your opinion would probably change. If you want something close to the best one available I'm sure you can spend 15 grand

Any high-end bicycle gets rather expensive and when you're talking about middle to higher end electric bike..... You're easily talking $2,000. I had occasion to ride $1,000 ebike for quite some mileage and it was rather lackluster. ( As far as top speed and torque and battery life )

Hell even a near top of the line conventional mountain bike can get out to $10,000 nowadays.... And that was even before bidenomics kicked in.... I'm talking 13 years ago which is the last time I really looked into spending good money on top of the line bikes

One time many years ago when I had the bug for the best components... I had $2,300 in my mountain bike and it didn't even have any sort of motor except for me. The front suspension fork alone was a $480 fork and the wheels were $500 and the frame was $500 and this was a hardtail bike with only front suspension

And that's about the time I got into fabricating bicycles. To hell with paying big money for a bike that I didn't even get to put my own input to.

I've got a welder and a grinder and a pile of bikes and I'm going to cut them up and be my own engineer and build the best bike that I want.

When it comes to bikes you don't buy the cheapest but you don't buy the most expensive but somewhere in the middle is the happy ground

The next time I take the cover off of my most recently built and ridden recumbent, I will get some pictures of it.

Has a long wheelbase with 26-in wheels front and rear, over the top tube tiller steering and a one-piece leather seat that I cut out from a half a cowhide.

It's really nice and comfortable and can carry tons of cargo but it has been a long time since I have regularly used it because well I have street legal dirt bike and it's just too tempting to turn the key and take off on that instead.

For the last 13 years, we've lived in a rural area with 3 miles of gravel road, before getting to pavement, I try to stay in shape by using the elliptical or the stationary recumbent at Planet Fitness, but it's just not the same. Recumbent is hanging in the garage. I was thinking that, if I get the power-assist, I'll sell or donate it.
