This video made me want to try it.

California used to have the biggest Grizzles around here-now its just a few brown bear.

Spanyards would hunt it locally 200 years ago.

I don't care to find out if I'm susceptible. Pork is well done or I don't eat it. I have heard you can hunt wild pigs in Tennessee with a lance. I hope that is from horseback

To me this is simple, if you eat red meat everyday, its eventually going to hurt you, if you eat it once a week or so it wont.
If you eat cake candy and icecream everyday you are going to get fat, if you eat them on occasion you wont

Everyone has their own beliefs and wants, I know people right now in their 90s that smoked all their lives and ate red meat. I know many more in thier 80s and even more in their 70s

If everything they tell us is so bad for us, we would have a thinner population

If people want to be vegans go for it, but please dont try to push your values on me. Respect that I dont want to be a vegan

It’s about your own skills. You should just start fishing as often as possible, the rest will come with experience. When I was younger I fished with a line a lot and usually within an hour or two I had enough fish to feed a few people. I hope to restart doing that in about 5-6 years when my son grows older.
Just remember one thing - size isn’t important, it’s better to have a bunch of smaller fish than one large one. And learn about average lifespan of the fish too - the longer the fish lives the more mercury it will accumulate in its body.

I don’t think I have ever seen a place that serves raw pork. Having said that, I think I would try it if I was at a respectable place. And this slice of bread with ground meat on it looks very familiar - it looks like something that I already tried in the past but can’t remember when and where. When I travel I’m pretty adventurous and try different things, so maybe I came across raw pork already.

What, in gods name, is the charm of raw pork. that people would rist some really crappy diseases for it? Pork's flavor while cooked can be delicious but I cant help but think that flavor raw would make me sick

It depends on other ingredients of the dish. In steak tartare the taste of raw beef is being complemented with the taste of herbs and quail egg. So, these ingredients play so well with the beef the whole thing tastes delicious.
I think a talented chef would be able to put something together to make raw pork taste great as well.
As for that picture - I think because I can vaguely remember something that looked just like that sandwich sitting on a plate in front of me, I can conclude I didn’t think much of the taste at the time.
I do love and crave steak tartare though.

Feeds lots of people as does pork and poultry and are the center pieces of most meals while being low carb.

My understanding of steak tartare is that is came about when mongol soldiers put slabs of beef under their saddles to consume while mounted and so never stop for anything, even eating or sleep. I dunno, they made the largest Empire the world has ever seen and their Army's mobility still rivals even modern mechanized ones, so they must have been doing something right.

Keep in mind throughout the 20th century and part of the 19th century medicine and nutrition was dominated by seventh day Adventists. That's who made up the food pyramid that says we need a grain based diet.

If you didn't know Seventh-Day Adventists are strict vegetarians.

That's right vegetarianism and veganism was invented by a religious sect. Kind of like chiropractic.

I wouldn’t eat raw pork either. I’ve met guys that drop out of trees onto wild hogs and slit their throats with a blade. A lot of places just want dead hogs, they don’t care how. :)

Humans are apes, and apes are naturally vegetarians, our colon is puny and eating meat puts a real strain on not only that but our whole digestive system. The problem is that meat is just so DAMNED good at giving us lots of energy and nutrition in a much more compact form than most plants even try to. Even modern Vegans notice that they generally are taking MUCH longer to prepare and consume their food than they were and they still have to make quite an effort to get enough protein. Now think of Joe Caveman who usually had to eat and run or the Sabre tooth would eat HIM.. Hell, gimme that Mammoth burger, I'm hungry.

Dr. Harvey Kellogg was one. The inventor (though not the main merchant of, that was his brother) the corn flake. The movie "The Road to Wellness" was based on him, though most are skeptical that he actually said his stool was of the odor and consistency of fresh biscuits.

To me this sect of Christianity is on the nuttier side. I wouldn't call them a cult but they definitely have cult-like tendencies.

Because of that I don't trust their research. Or claims.

Nor do most nutritionists nowadays, though one dictum that they shared with Ben Franklin was " All thing's in moderation" ( and that includes moderation, continued Ben)

One of the Seventh Day Founders was one William Miller, of the Millerites fame

    https://www.thoughtco.com/millerites-definition-1773334

    Religion is fascinating indeed.

As have Sharks, and several other very successful species. There is a definite evolutionary advantage in being able to eat everything.

What else would we be doing with all those Weber's and Green Eggs that evolved?

Do you have anything to back up the claim Adventists are responsible for the food pyramid? I’ve never heard that one before.

Only about 30% of Adventists are vegetarians.

Vegetarianism existed in Greek culture. It was a thing in the US long before 1840-50’s when Adventists came about.

No, I'm really only interested in planting seeds.

Through their history or just currently?

Yeah but how much influence did Greeks have over our idea of nutrition?
