Ex-Adviser Hassett: Trump Knew His Policies Were 'Fighting for the Little Guy'

Former President Donald Trump always knew he was “fighting for the little guy,” a former top economic adviser says.

In an interview with Epoch Times’ TV program Crossroads, Kevin Hassett, who headed the Council of Economic Advisers from 2017 through 2019, said Trump pressed policies that countered a drift into socialism — and as a result, was an “absolute success story for the little guy”
Trump “absolutely understood that he was fighting a very big, powerful historical force … and he also knew 100 percent that he was fighting for the little guy,” Hassett told Crossroads.

The Trump administration prioritized policies that cut taxes and regulations that fueled a boom economy, Hassett told Crossroads, adding that during the years he served, “income inequality dropped sharply for the first time since World War II, wages grew faster for people in the bottom 10 percent of the wage distribution than for people at the top, as did wealth.”

“The homeownership grew startlingly for people at the bottom 10 percent, seven million people went off food stamps, [and] three million people went out of poverty,” Hassett told Crossroads. “It was an absolute success story for the little guy. And yet, the more the good news came, the angrier and angrier the left wing got.”…

The news maker interview given to the Epoch Times is a very good news interview. Hassett knew first hand of what he said in that interview. I’ll tell you what a scam is. A president makes sure a publishing company gets a huge federal contract, then that president gets a multi million dollar book deal from that company. Does the name Obama ring a bell? Or how about the Clinton foundation which brought in millions people when she was either SoS or a potential president. Once she lost in 2016 the donations dried up.

 

And they brought in more revenues to the federal government last FY than was projected if there were no tax cuts!

 

Yes and this is how you see the left are communists. They would rather "eat the rich" and decrease revenue than cut taxes.

It'll take half a generation at least for the US to recover. And I do concur that the previous administration baited the left unduly as well - and has brought out the worst in some of them.

T**** would have been absolutely disgusted if he ever ran into a "Little Guy" in real life. If he helped anybody in the timeframe 2017- 11/3/2020 (after which he completely quit), it was certainly not on purpose...

 

I was actually somewhat supportive of Trump prior to the election. Although I ended up voting for Clinton.

But, the healthcare system was sabotaged by Trump and congressional Republicans during their run. That's the real reason why Republicans lost to Democrats in the following election. It wasn't mail-in voting that caused Republicans to lose.

Seriously, I have had Medicaid since Obamacare passed and have been helped immensely by it. It always troubled me that other Americans had to put off basic medical care because they couldn't afford it.

I want everyone to be able to see a doctor and walk right in, pass by the desk, and have an appointment without needing to pay the bill. I want to see other people's medication cost $1 instead of whatever they're paying now. But Americans can't have it because Republicans cry "socialism, communism!"

They are just pissing into the wind.

And, even when they have experienced socialized medical care for themselves by receiving free vaccinations for COVID-19 paid for by the government, well, some people still don't see the light.

 

I've heard one negative comment spoils his breakfast, two negative comments the entire day.

 

Note that in Australia that free healthcare comes at the cost of a 2% Medicare levy (of taxable income) over your working life.

Is it worth it? Absolutely. Not only at a personal level but we also witness a generally happier and healthier citizenry during our everyday activities.

The drawback of the Medicare levy and taxation system in general is it is harder to get Uber rich quickly in Australia compared to the US.

 

That is indeed their bottom line.
