Walls are more effective. By themselves, sensors are useless because unless you have guards everywhere, by the time they get there the illegals can no longer be caught.

Once they throw up "We need a smart border wall, not a 3rd century solution" I have my doubts. Just about eveything we do has its roots in ancient technology. They need to lose that talking point.
His solution is my biggest objection. We cannot intercept them until they are on our side of the border which is risky to the guards and to the illegals.

Where did I state where what had to be used? I want a combination. However, the areas most vulnerable are those that require a wall and need to be taken care of now.

Illegal aliens cost well over $200 BILLION per year. About $1 TRILLION every 4 years. Every Presidential election cycle illegals cost taxpayers (read republicans) $1 TRILLION dollars.

    Wall money is chump change.

I guess this what being a conservative is all about. So, ancient technology is better ? So after how many years does New technology became acceptable to a conservative ?
A third century approach to border control preferable ? That’s hysterical.

That’s because the gop has long dragged their feet in legalizing and taxing immigrant labor. Does it come natural to conservatives to just make stuff up or do you have to work at it.

wut? I believe that quantum nerd is a gainfully employed legal immigrant. You might want to ask him if his salary is taxed. I'm pretty sure it is.

Nobody pays very much tax on slave labour wages? Probably none at all?

Aren't we talking about exploitative illegal immigrant employment here? [IMG]

Add to that the testimony in El Chapo's trial that shows his preferred methods of smuggling cocaine and heroin were to send shipments through border checkpoints - relying on Border Patrol's utter incompetence - or tunneling under the existing wall in border cities and transferring the contraband between warehouses on each side.

I was replying to dagosa who said "That’s because the gop has long dragged their feet in legalizing and taxing immigrant labor. Does it come natural to conservatives to just make stuff up or do you have to work at it."

I supplied an example of somebody who participates in this forum who is a gainfully employed legal immigrant who is more than likely taxed.

It was just such a bonehead thing to post that I had to respond.

I guess that is what being a liberal is all about. Spout the talking point of the day and convincing themselves that is a convincing argument.

The age of the technology has zero affect on the result. What I would like to know is how modern technology will actually stop anyone. Logic says we would rather stop them on the other side of the border rather than chase them down on our side of the border. Only a physical barrier will do that.

As long as you treat them as third world laborers and not pay a living wage, sure. Do the math. 10 million tax payers living in dignity is better then 10 million in the shadows. We all benefit.

I thought you were advocating not giving them a job and not paying them at all.

Keep thinking that living in the past is better while you pound away on your computer key boards. Conservatives are walking contradictions. You’re life expectancy has doubled because of medical technology. You’re alive today and whining about how great the past was.....only because you got to live in the present.

Holding employers accountable is not sending them back. It’s registering them and bringing them out if the shadows.

You have never explained how sensors and "modern" technology is supposed to keep them from coming across the border.
But you were advocating penalizing employers who hire illegal workers. How many workers do you think we should register to make them legal? Especially in a country with no enforceable borders? Wouldn't that attract even more illegals?

Logic says they fill real needs, just like everyother one who helped build this country. You want geniuses, welcome immigrants.
