That they claim to have foiled a terrorist attack (our own FBI routinely make claims like that)? That the timing lined up conveniently with a known political goal (again, see the FBI)? Yeah that’s how it works. You claim something will happen soon and then in the fervor you attack having justification to attack. Blinds everyone into thinking the cause is real.

 

And just so I understand your position: Do you consider it impossible that some Ukrainian loyalist planted a bomb in a trash bin in a park? Improbable? Possible, just less likely than a false flag by the Russkies? Something else?

 

A series of Russian demands against Ukraine made within a month, US intelligence warning the attack would be a series of terrorist attacks in a propaganda video, and now all of a sudden Russian state media is reporting that there was a bomb found where a veterans rally was going to be held? That is way too coincidental. The question will be whether Russia considers this enough of a causas belli.

 

I'll be surprised if 400 grams of unexploded TNT gets major play as a "casus belli", but who knows, maybe it'll feature prominently. Frankly, I'll be surprised if there are major speeches for rallying of public opinion prior to the invasion. It looks like it might be happening sooner rather than later. There have been Twitter users reporting suspected cyber attacks, including GPS jamming, in eastern Ukraine for the last few hours. And there's this:

I'd be careful with the phrase "starting to attack". At least, I'd make a clearer distinction between digital / electronic activities (even though we commonly call them "cyber attacks") and actual lethal kinetic activities, which don't appear to be underway yet, at least in a major way. It's more like "they're making final preparations to attack" rather than "starting to attack."

And yes, obviously, if it's the commencement of a major invasion, "the worst has yet to come." I can heartily agree with your sentiment from the last line of your OP.

I did too. Strategic reshuffling or they were moving under cover and slowly building up in other places undercover like with Crimea.

 

I hope a war does not happen but we need to be strong if it does. Russia wants the economic machine back, the economic machine once known as the USSR, and there is no telling what they will do with that income other than nothing good.
