If someone does not like the pay at their fast food job they should go find another job.

    Sure. Right.

King Obama is a Messiah sent to earth from the Great God Marx. As such, he ALWAYS lies when it's feasible.

So naturally, the one opposing King Obama, Racist and Traitor, must be lying.

How's the view from King Obama's ass? Kinda dark in there?

It was never meant to be a career for illegals.

But you seem to want to make it that. Pay Americans and they will keep the jobs.

Exactly. There has always been a need for part time jobs for teenagers or as a part time second income job for a family. Some people think that if they raise up entry level wages that higher paying higher skill jobs won't simply adjust up in pay to reach equilibrium and then all goods and services raise up as well. Its called inflation and that would be the inevitable result of it all.

Come one employers in key industries were cutting hours to 30 or less for years now. If you run a retail store your going to have some full-time but many part-time since stores may have down weeks and seasonal busy times it easier to schedule if you have a pool of part-time workers to plug needs. Same for food service at many levels. There is no evidence that has shown me Obamacare is the driver here. Walmart for years noted a "full time hourly wage position" was 28 hours I have their handbook in front of me from 1998. Well before Obamacare.

You know that there is an alternative outcome. Better pay and spending lifts the economy. Every time that we talk about minimum, there is no discuss about spreading the wealth. Other rivals of Wal-Mart and McD pay better wages. You clap because Wal-Mart and McD are keeping their wages cheap so that they can be bigger companies and make more profits. We taxpayers pay for their low wages.

So if an employer hires someone during school hours or late at night when kids should be studying or sleeping then they shouldn't be paying the minimum wage since they have to hire real people who need real money to pay real bills during those time periods.

    - - - Updated - - -

If someone's pay is so low that they have to be supplemented by governmental assistance than that employer pays too little.

The problem is, just because you want more pay, doesn't mean the labor is worth more.

I don't know where you people think the money for wages come from. It comes from the value of the labor. Such as Wendy's the money comes from the value of the burger. Well guess what sparky.... A cheap fast food burger isn't worth that much. If you bump up the cost of a Wendy's burger to $20, just so you can pay some burger flipper $20 an hour, doesn't mean the customers are going to buy it. And in fact, they won't.

So the store closes, and now those employees are paid...>>ZERO<<. Now how much governmental assistance are they getting?

This is an improvement in your books?

Or the other possibility is that they are replaced by robots, and then they are paid >>ZERO<<.

But no, you are not going to have Wendy's charging $20 for an individual meal, just so you can get whatever *YOUR OPINION IS* of what wage they should get.

And further, people supplement their income with government assistance because they can. I knew a girl back in the 90s, whose parents bought her a small house to live in while she went to OSU. Because she earned so little money herself, she collected food stamps, and routinely came into the grocery store where I worked, and walked out with bags of chips and soda, all paid for with food stamps.

The solution to that problem is to simply END the government assistance. The few who actually "need" more money, will be forced to get off their butt, and work a job that earns more money, instead of intentionally working a minimum wage job, and supplementing it with government assistance.

I question your meaning of "worth" and I have been questioning it for 30 years.

I don't know where you people think the money comes from when companies don't provide for their employees.

Don't worry. Many entrepreneurs are waiting for Wal-Mart or McD to close stores so that they compete in those areas.

Well, at least, you use a good anecdote. I am happy that we could help her go to college. You should see what I buy at stores. You would frown on my purchase too.

And we finish with "Die, people, die!"

Growing up those jobs were always filled by High School and College students working to pay for books, classes and gas money. The problem for employers was moderately high turn over. By hiring illegals they have some one who will work for low pay and stick around.

The SSA and IRS are all too well aware of multiple people using a single social security number. With modern computer databases, it wouldn't be hard to pluck out all the duplicate, non issued or underage users. Then send notices to their employers the duplicate users payments are coming from that there appears to be an error and they must verify the social security number within 30 days or face massive fines and jail time. Enforcement had a ripple effect back in 2006 when IFCO (wooden palette maker) got caught in a Government sting. A local area electronics maker fired 88 employees that couldn't produce a valid SSN and they weren't under scrutiny by ICE. The jobs were quickly filled with citizens. E-Verify must become mandatory, no exceptions and used to verify citizenship for any government benefits. Take away their ability to get legitimate jobs with forged paperwork and they will go home on their own.

This is a simple cost effective way to open up several million existing jobs to citizens out of work. It will also save Billions in Government benefits going to those who circumvented the legal immigration process.

Besides the government has been letting over a million legal permanent residents per year for at least the last 3 years, WHY? we don't need more folks looking for jobs.

    It's a very simple concept.

You are worth what the market determines your labor is valued at.

If you have a skill nobody needs our wants, then your labor is worth nothing. If you have a skill that only a few people have, and a lot of people want our need it is worth a lot.

Every job in between is subject to the same principles.

If you have a skill, that 200 million other people have, then you probably aren't going to be worth much per hour. In fact you are "worth" exactly the amount somebody else is willing to do the work for.

What is difficult about this concept?

So now your argument has come down to taking jobs away from Americans and giving them to illegals? All for the sake of the employers. You must not be an American citizen. You argue about a new immigration law and want illegals to take over American jobs? You must not like the new immigration law because you want to defend the employers hiring illegals.

Sorry, you are over the map. You want verification but you want more illegals. You want employers to hire them and then want to punish them for hiring illegals.

Please come back when you feel better.

Other places do not generally pay more than walmart and McDonalds. Smaller fast food places also pay low as do department stores in general. Taxpayers do not pay a penny of those workers pay at all. You are being ridiculous with that whopper.

It must not be a simple concept if you do not understand it. When workers can negotiate on their labor worth, then there is market working. In the last 30 years, most workers have not been able to negotiate. Maybe you are too young to understand how the market used to work?

Again if we raise workers minimum pay to 10 dollars an hour the stores will charge more for their goods and people with better jobs than McDonald fry cooks, will demand higher wages to pay for the higher costing goods and we will just have inflation. Your $10 dollars will simply turn into 7 dollars due to the inflation it will all cause.

Look up their big competitors and come back. Small businesses are generally not covered by minimum wage laws

    Taxpayers do.

Again you repeat right wing talking points. Oh, the horror of it, people will demand higher wages. If inflation is lower than wage increases, there is no problem. In the last 30 years, we have had lower inflation but wages have not kept up with that. The middle/lower incomes have been losing buying power. The top has become rich because of that but, if we continue that, we will have 80% of Americans needing more help from the government, taxes will go up and our consumer (people) based will disappear. The rich can invest anywhere but most Americans can not and don't want to move overseas.

Somehow people on the right think employers are justify pushing wage costs on the consumer or always raising prices because of the demand. The right can't get their heads around profits being too high and too much money going to the top. They prefer to blame the consumers or the workers. They see horror in sharing the wealth better.

Worth has been defined the same way it has since the dawn of time. It's the value someone else is willing to give you, for what you do. If it's black topping your drive way, the value of doing that is based on how much the customer (you and others who want the service) are willing to pay.

Which doesn't matter, if the customers are not willing to pay you more to do the job. A company can't pay you $50,000 a year, when the customer is only willing to pay you $5 for a burger. Hello..... it's called basic math. When your labor sells for $5 dollars, you can't pay the employee $10. This should be obvious...

No not true. A small business would be less able to handle higher labor costs, than would a large company. If Walmart can't run a store, a small guy without the economies of scale, that a large corporation has, won't be able to either. No matter how much damage government regulations have on corporations, it's much worse for smaller independent companies.

Why do you think the recent CAFE legsilation that increased CAFE standards, when Obama signed the bill, there was a floor full of mega-auto-corporate CEOs there? They know that even though it will effect them, it will effect them all equally. So no competitive loss between them. Further the cost of CAFE to the corporations, as with all costs on corporations, will be passed on to the consumer. So no loss there either.

However, it will make it far more difficult for independent car companies to open up shop, and compete with the big corporations. Small companies don't have the resources to deal with regulations, that the large corporations do. So corporations are generally in favor of more regulations.

Walmart may jack up their prices, to meet higher minimum wage requirements you want, but so will all the other mega retailers. Yes they might lay off a few people, perhaps the door greeters will get kicked out of a job, but the companies are not going anywhere. And the price off all the goods will be passed on to customers, so Walmart doesn't care.

The good news for Walmart is, those smaller retail shops, that don't have a fraction of the money walmart does? Those places will likely end up closed, because they simply don't have the resources to meet the new minimum wage you want. Those employees, they all are laid off, and Walmart has less competition to deal with.

Rich win from less competition, poor lose from fewer jobs, customers lose from higher prices. Great job there lefty.

I have no problem with *YOU* funding a rich families little girl getting chips and pop. Fine, by all means. Make the rich richer, and the poor poorer. That's what you leftists ALWAYS do. Funny how you people all complain about welfare for the rich, and then promote it here.

But in my world, I don't have a lot of money, and I shouldn't be forced to pay for a rich girls chips and soda. I realize that's an insane concept to the moronic left, but such is the stupidity in America today. That's why I don't vote for anyone on the left.

No, that's what happens in left-wing countries, where you keep stealing from the producers of society, until they don't produce anymore, and Venezuela has country wide food shortages. You, and those like you, are telling people to "Die people die!". That's the history of your entire political ideology. You claim otherwise, and point your fingers at everyone but yourselves, but in reality you are the people who harm everyone in society, and the truth is.... you really don't care. You people say you do, but the truth is, you don't give a crap who you hurt, so long as you get your ideology shoved down everyone's throats. Such is the result of greed and envy, hallmarks of the left.

Wages are not supposed to 'keep up' with inflation.

Why do you think, that just because you are doing something over time, you should earn more? If someone mows your lawn for $25 a mow, and 5 years later, he comes up and demands $100 a mow.... what are you going to do? You are going to fire that guy, and hire someone else.

    "But but! Inflation!"

    No.... it's not worth it.

"But but I've been mowing your lawn for 5 years!"

Doesn't matter... the labor isn't worth that much. You can buy a mower, and mow it yourself for $150 plus fuel. Why would you pay someone $200 a month to mow your lawn, when you could do it yourself for a tiny fraction as much? You'll either do it yourself, or find someone with more reasonable prices.

The price of a burger at Wendy's doesn't go up in value to customers, simply because a few years went by.

If White Castle with their 78¢ burger, suddenly said "well we've decided that inflation has driven up the value of our 78¢ slider, to $3.90!" want to know what will happen? White Castle won't have any customers.

Which means that either they will close, and all the employees have no job at all, or they will automate their stores, and those employees will have no jobs at all.

You want to earn more money? Do something that produces more value. It's not up to everyone else to give you more money because you have the ability to complain. It's up to *YOU* to do something that people are willing to pay more for. No one else is at fault. Just the man in the mirror.

Any person who worries about the interests of wealthy elites over the interests of working Americans is a deeply immoral person. As a minimum wage worker, your opposition to such protests makes you the equivalent to the house slave of years past. Thanking the masters for all they do give!! You couldn't want any more, and anything they don't give you is because of evil outside forces hurting poor master!! :fart:
