Unfortunately it is nearly impossible to know when evil will cross your path, for that reason alone I always carry, now if I know I am going into a hotspot like Overtown at four in the morning to pick up supplies I will change from a .380 ACP to a .45 ACP, but I always carry.

Heck earlier today I had to go to Clewiston to measure a room at the CPD where I am going to be building and installing a communications desk, and even though I was going to the police department I still carried, except into the building as I am not sworn in yet.

I guess that depends on the person, no one can piss me off unless they get violent against me or my family, I refuse to let anyone make me angry as that is allowing someone else to control my emotions and I come across arse-hats all the time, as Florida's urban areas has a generous stock of them, most from the N.E. where they know how to do everything better then us dumb redneck hicks.

I had something like that happen more than once, commonly at places like Home Depot, the problem is I have always driven large vans or trucks for most of my life and was trained early on by BellSouth to always either pull through a parking space, or back into it, and I cannot remember how many times I would go to back into a space and some fool would scoot into the space right behind me as I was getting ready to back up.

Aggravating, yes, but not worth getting into a argument over, I just drive to another space and try again.

I had another time, again at a Home Depot, where there was a lady walking toward my van as I was backing up, I didn't notice she had walked into my blind spot, nut I always back up very slowly, at the last second she realized I was going to run her over if she didn't move, so she did and that was when I noticed her, I parked went to get out and she begins screaming at me, then a guy in a pickup parks in front of me gets right into my face and while spitting starts calling me every name in the book, while accusing me of trying to run his girlfriend over.

I looked at the guy straight on and told him, Sir I have a huge blind spot to the rear of this van and she was not standing there when I began backing up, now if you will back your truck up I will leave and you can have the space ok.

His answer was eff you, he then got in his truck put it in reverse and burnt out slamming into a car behind him, I got in the van started it up and drove away.

    Karma's a *itch.

Bottom line as a person who carries, I just cannot let anyone make mad, I just take it, consider the source and move on with life.

I am grateful to the Second Amendment for saving over 1,000 lives. Sadly the Second Amendment also enabled the loss of 572,000 lives in USA 1999-2016.

Some of those 572,000 were rapists who were killed by their intended victim(s). It says a lot that you bemoan their death.

The vast majority of 572,000 were victims of murder and suicide. Only about 5,000 were justifiable homicide.

And a drop in the bucket compared to other threats, threats that shouldn't even be here, but are because of bleeding heart liberals.

And during that same time period 22.5 million people saved themselves from violent crimes and death by legally possessing a firearm.

[IMG] = homicide + accident + suicide [IMG] = self defense

Every year, guns are used over 80x more often to protect a life than to take one!*

Guns are not only a valuable method of protecting oneself and ones family they are Constitutionally protected.

Just as cutting implements, poisonous gasses, rope, and tall buildings have enabled the loss of tens to hundreds of thousands of lives in the nation of Japan?

You're comparing gun crimes recorded by the police to the results of surveys about defensive gun use. Try to be more consistent. Either compare survey results to survey results or compare police data to police data.

More people report being a victim of gun crime than having used a gun in self defense in surveys:

"After controlling for other aspects of the surveys, these surveys indicate that criminal gun use is far more common that self-defense gun use. For example, in May 2000, a Washington Post national random-digit dial survey asked 'Not counting military service, have you ever been threatened with a gun or shot at?' Twenty-three percent (23%) said yes. In that same month (May 2000), a Gallup national random-digit dial survey asked 'Not including military combat, have you ever used a gun to defend yourself either by firing it or threatening to fire it?' Seven percent (7%) of respondents said yes."

And of course the police record more gun crimes than defensive gun uses.

I'm not comparing anything to anything, if you have a beef with the data take it up with the author not me.

What the cited survey does not do, however, is reveal how many of those who have been threatened with a firearm or shot at, were engaged in crime at the time of the event. Such details are pertinent and must be known for the above survey to have any merit or worth.

No. In USA there are about 13,000 homicides per year and illegal immigrants are responsible for a small fraction of them.

The main problem in Japan is acceptance of suicide.

There are 30 criminal homicides and 50-70 suicides for every justifiable homicide.

The disadvantages of private gun ownership greatly outweigh the advantages.

Thank you. The advantages are mainly for upper middle class people who hunt for sports. The disadvantages are faced by people with mental disability who end their own lives.

PS. I have moderate Depression, not severe Depression -- I am OK.

Why should the nation of Japan not be accepting of individuals choosing to end their own existence?

Even if such is the case and factually accurate, it ultimately changes nothing. Legal firearms ownership, for legitimate purposes, is both recognized and codified into the united states constitution as a right held by the individuals., to use for whatever legal purposes they may please. The criminal misuse of firearms by those who cannot legally possess them, cannot in any way be used as ground for attempting to abridge that right, as per the Heller, McDonald and Caetano rulings.

What are the advantages of the use of tobacco products that warranted their continued legality?

Sadly they are accepting -- they do not view it as a sin.

It's not a disadvantage, if they want to end their life so be it, at least with a gun they can get it over with quickly and not become a burden on society.

Who cares, most people do have any depression what so ever and are better off because of that.

Nothing sad about it, why should a society be burdened with keeping people alive who would prefer to be dead, let them go and be done with it.

I stopped carrying a firearm when I stopped dealing in the black market and I refuse to go back to carrying one.

The "real " part I was referring to was how many of these shootings were stopped by a person carrying an AR style gun or a gun with a 50 or 100 round magazine?
