"The first women will start in frontline combat roles in the Royal Armoured Corps from November. This will extend to all areas of the armed forces by the end of 2018, including the infantry, air force, marines and some special forces. "

It's official girls you have the right to fight alongside men. Huge victory!!!

"Women make up about 9% of the British army". This number needs to change, more women should be encouraged to fight our wars and protect our nation's. War is no longer a man's game get stuck in ladies.

Would be great to see those numbers 50/50

It's about time we get real equality.

Percentage of work place deaths for men: 93%

Percentage of work place deaths for women: 7%

When they gonna let my people go?

Doesn't stop some women from whining about taking those lower paying jobs though, does it?

I’m curious, if we knew the military (combat roles) would be weaker with 50/50 would you still be in favor of it anyways in the name of “equality”.

I wouldn't condone my daughters serving in the military for two reasons...1. they can't seem to sort out the sexual assault issues and keep covering up rapes and 2. I wouldn't allow them to serve with the current administration. If those two things get cleared up, women should absolutely sign up....its a great way to get your tuition paid.

Maybe because they don't think it's PC to segregate them out into separate regiments.

Heck, last I heard on the latest aircraft carrier they ditched the idea of male and female bathrooms.

Or maybe its because there's a long history and culture of covering up and condoning serious sexual assault. At one point, the person appointed to investigate these crimes was accused of assault...pretty ridiculous.

Your side was the one that wanted to put women with men in the lower ranks.
Just mix everyone together, a bunch of 18 and 19-year-olds living together in close quarters 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, what could go wrong?

Not for men though. Women in boot camp can't make 3 pull-ups which is pathetic. Now US Marines and Army lowered the requirements from 3 pull-ups to just hanging in air for 60 seconds. That is so pathetic that it was never considered a rule for men.

Or maybe we would lose half our fighting support because of actual rapes and false allegations of rape. Not to mention the jealousy that comes from certain people hooking up while ignoring others. The majority of the force would be waiting trials and general mast for assaults, rapes, and allegations, and disobeying GO1. Not to mention the pregnancies and fraternization charges.

I've worked in a male oriented field my entire career. I've managed to do so without getting sexually assaulted or pregnant. However, has an extremely clear policy on how they deal with people who commit ANY unwanted sexual-type behavior towards a co-worker. You are immediately fired for that type of behavior. And I mean, immediately. They will walk you out within hours. The military has an issue with this because they have had a long history of tolerating and covering up not just minor sexual harassment but serious sexual assault. Its been going on for years and its pervasive and sick. The military's entire atmosphere and training has never centered around really dealing with sexual harassment, assault or even fraternization. Corporate America has been seriously dealing with this for 40 years and doing it far, far better.

There is a huge difference between civilian world and military world, especially when it comes to war environments. Its a different level of bonding.

It doesn't matter with regard to the policy on how to deal with sexual harassment and assault. There should be a zero-tolerance policy and harsh penalties...not a massive cover up system.

No proportional and then some men fought in wars since the founding of the nation to compensate for this long disparity in combat they should be at least 80% of all armed service members including combat and men should have a supporting role outside of combat for say at least two centuries until they bleed, get broken, smashed and die for their nation. If they need to bring back conscription then do it.

But women didn't set the rules of the military (or any other institution, for that matter). So if men have served disproportionately that's because they've set all the rules and system to ensure that was the way it was. In fact, my great-grandfather signed up to serve in WWII but they wouldn't let him do anything but be a cook because he was black. He literally wasn't allowed at first sign up for combat because of the rules set up. That changed later and some black men were allowed to serve in action but should we now make only white men serving cooks and janitors to make up for that? Because in my opinion, that would be an ineffective and inflammatory method of prosecuting an unjust past wrong thing. It seems like the right thing to do would be more along the lines of making fair rules and having better representation from all genders and ethnic groups and making an atmosphere that is friendly to that. You can't blame women for rules they didn't create.

Doesn't matter the reason for the discrimination it was discrimination, to compensate all the former harm to the male gender must be removed by blood. Women could have come out and insist they be drafted like men and put into combat but they were happen making men the expendable gender so fine payback should be they come forward and do most if not all of the fighting and such.

I agree, but how about we stop the possibility of male/female problems from the start with not desegregating the sexes for the military? It already lowers the average physical strength of the group, then the added "bonus" of biological factors interacting after a high stressed scenario leads to really bad interactions.
