    Wow!
20 penalties needed to sort it out.
    Go Matildas.
Hopefully England can join them in the semi-final for an all Commonwealth game.

Columbia go ahead on 44 mins with a floated cross that the England goalie couldn't reach.
England equalise just before the whistle after a goalie error is pounced on.
1-1 to start the 2nd half.

The world premiere of a documentary about the Birthday Party is about as far from Barbie as you can get....in every way. ;) The audience were all on their phones & chattering cheerfully about the result befpore the credits finished rolling.

Missed the shoot out, but VERY pleased with the result. Not sure we will get past England, but this is now the best ever result for an Australian soccer team. Woo hoo!

England looked a lot better today.
Both sides pressing hard in a tight game. Could easily have gone the other way. Columbia has some real talent but they wasted a few too many chances.
Great semi against Australia to look forward to.

Sweden v Spain a bit of a snoozefest until Spain brought Paralleulo on. Her speed & size was too much for the Swedish defence and one goal led to....two more. Both quality. The last one something else. Spain worthy finallists. Hopefully against he Matildas.

    Go Tillies!

Glad to see Spain made the final - I wouldn't be the least bit surprised to see them hoisting the Cup this weekend. They've been the most technically precise team I've seen in the entire field.

Nice to see Olga Carmona get the game-winner, too - she put in an outstanding effort all game long.

Yeah, they were the better team that half. Lots of work for the Tillies to do. Need to reset and rethink.

Australia have had their chances too.
Mary Erps has had to save a couple.

.....I think that is it folks. England have made better chances and taken them. We have had our chances, but not quite as good as often. Narrow margins, but that is sport for ya. Should be an interesting final.

As an outsider I gotta say this.... Matilda's what a great name for a soccer team.

    Unlucky BF.
I was only half watching because I'm at work but it looked like it could have gone either way.

I don't think it could have gone either way. I thought England was the far superior team. Deserved victory. Congratulations, Monte. The final should be interesting. I think England and Spain are both deserving finalists.

England did what all great teams at this level do, make their opponents pay for their mistakes, and Australia's defense made three really bad ones.
