Well the Cubans already fled a communist regime they're hip to the BS so they know they won't be voting for Democrats.

So Democrats have no love for Cubans.

The US spent 20 years, a trillion dollars, and thousands of American lives in an effort to civilize Afghanis, and it was a dismal failure.

And now the solution is to let them come live with us.

    That's a bold strategy, Cotton...

    Cheat Sheet

The offense of the action is in direct proportion to the letter behind the POTUS' name.

"My letter" - it's all good
"Not my letter" - it's all bad

The actual *action* is irrelevant in that formula.

You really have a dim view of America and especially the people who make up this great country. I have been hearing this kind of doomsday stuff for over 50 years from both sides of the political spectrum. I have been involved with working with young Americans for over 45 years in baseball, boxing and other youth sports as well as working with kids who had been in juvenile detention centers and who had been abandoned and left in the care of bad people through foster care. I have also been involved in organizations whose goal it is to feed and help homeless people. I have found that kids from all of the generations since the mid 1970s through today are a great and diverse lot and most of their parents are good hard working people who want the best for their kids and work hard to provide for them.

I don’t have any idea where you live, but I have lived here in LA County for most of my 67 years and from where I sit, and in my travels to the East Coast and Mid West I see a great and diverse country with unlimited possibilities for the future. The people I encounter every day and have for all these years are incredible. For every negative, judgmental jackass I meet, I meet 20 great people. When I first moved here in 1964 it (the San Fernando Valley) was a pretty white bread, racist and bland place. Only a few good restaurants, only two pizza joints and my elementary school had no black people and a couple Mexicans in it. No Asians, no Middle Easterners, a few Jews who were usually harassed for being Jews. I remember there was a petition being passed around to prevent a home owner from selling his house to a black family who moved in a couple houses down the street from me.

At that time and for years to come, homosexuals were treated like dirt and despised. I remember older neighborhood tough guys bragged about going down to The Pike in Long Beach for an activity they called “rolling queers” which was looking for homosexuals and beating them up and taking their wallets. They said the cops used to cheer them on and laugh. I was here during the Watts riots, the beginning of the women’s movement, the influx of people from New York, Detroit, Chicago and all over the country into Southern California. I remember in the mid 1970s going down to West Hollywood to drink and party. There was and still is an old bar on Santa Monica Blvd and La Cieniga called Barney’s Beanery. Great chili, pool tables and always a row of Harley’s parked out front. Right as you walked in there was a big sign which read: “F*ggots Stay Out”. The matches they gave out also said that. At the time, not being gay, I thought it was pretty funny.

Since those days I have seen our city gradually transform into a great national and international melting pot. There are some problems with crime and drugs as in any huge metropolis Ike LA, but all in all we have evolved into a world class city full of endless opportunities and great people and their cultures from every corner of the world.

I live up in the high desert in the foothills of the San Gabriel mountains now, but I drive through the City of LA a couple times a week and it’s better than ever. Once dumpy run down neighborhoods are now nice areas with great restaurants, shops and beautifully renovated homes built in the 1920s through the 1940s. Despite all of the negative crap that has been thrown at us for years, I find my home town to be the greatest place in America to live. I wake up every day grateful to be alive, to be an American and a proud Angelino.

I remember in 1964 when I first got here during the Goldwater vs Johnson election I met a new friend whose father was a total right wing John Bircher type. Even though I was only a 10 year old kid, I was already very interested in politics. He was spewing the exact same crap you are slinging here on this thread back then. If Goldwater loses, the Commies will take over, the permissive liberals ruining our youth and turning America into a filthy melting pot. Those who supported these progressive ideas really hate America etc, etc, etc...Then I remember the other side of the coin during the late 1960’s and early 1970’s left wing hippy nuts telling everyone to drop out of the horrible “establishment” and move to some commune in Oregon because the powers that be were ruining our whole planet and starting wars etc....Same crap, different angle. Both sides of this coin are really just a bunch of whiny losers who are miserable because the choose to be.

I look at life like a round of golf or a poker game. You got to play it where it lies and you have to play the cards you are dealt every day. The only thing that is certain is that everything is always changing and the universe is expanding and moving forward. Once you accept that and start living in the present, you will be led by the divine source of wisdom that was granted to you by the creator of this wonderous universe. Worrying, whining, pointing fingers and judging people will get you nowhere.

    Cheers

Nope, those people were just paranoid losers. Most of them died as bitter old pricks because nobody paid much attention to them. America is way better now than it was then. I remember when I first moved here there were many days the smog was so bad you couldn’t breathe. Then those tree hugging liberals forced the oil barons to get the lead out of the fuel and produce more efficient vehicles. Now, the air is pretty good. For your sake I hope you wake the f*ck up, quit worrying so much and learn how to enjoy this beautiful playground of a planet we live on. We live better today than Kings and Queens did 100 years ago. You need to get out there and enjoy what’s available sir. Play some golf, go surfing, climb a mountain, get laid, drink some whiskey, smoke a joint, go to a ball game, walk your dog....If you go on like this you too will end up dying a miserable old prick. It’s never too late.

When I left Pittsburgh in 1964 there were skull and crossbones signs up and down the Allegheney and Monongahela rivers. Now I go back to see the Pirates and Steelers and there are people jet skiing up and down those beautiful rivers...

I really love your credo: “America should and will die”......You sound more like an Iranian religious nut than a guy who loves America....geezus

Or... since the unfolding cancer has been so predictable I've spent 50x more time planning for it as I have complaining about and mocking it and can soon retire very comfortably in a place well distanced from the tsunami of mass poverty and criminality the next generation will know better than any in 100 years.

I am here in the foothills of the beautiful San Gabriel Mountains looking out at the vast Mojave Desert. I can be in Malibu riding a wave in the blue Pacific in an hour. I can go down the dirt road from my house and play beautiful Crystalaire Golf Course in 5 minutes. I am very grateful to be an American and to be living here in good old LA.

In a word: Imbalance. The balance between everything that maintains and advances civilization and everything which leeches from it and destroys it is now too far tipped to the wrong side.

And, you contend that's because of illegal immigrants and Afghani refugees and friends?

Those are, conditionally, just a few elements of a the larger organism eating us alive.

Those Afghans helped us in the war, and put their own and families lives at risk to help us. They deserve a break.

FYI, your doom and gloom is nothing compared to other people.
