Florida is getting close to the number of coronavirus cases as NY, but only has 1/10 the deaths.

NY has double the number of tests per capita so it's not just a matter of more tests being conducted in Florida. Florida has been reopened for months now so it's not just incubation period. Florida also has a higher average age so it's not that they have a lower risk population.

Why is Florida doing so well?

Most of Florida is a spread out; lots of people living in rural areas. The deaths you are talking about are deaths by total population numbers, not deaths by number of cases, where they are more likely to be similar. We see this the same in other rural areas. The virus spreads faster in cities.

FL death rate is 21 while NY is 121. But sure, try to make excuses. Biggest failure in NY is Cuomo mandating sick people put into nursing homes.

    FL population ~21.67M
    NY population ~19.54M
    FL cases ~350k
    NY cases ~407k
    FL deaths ~5k
    NY deaths ~32,402

What does Florida being spread out have to do with the deaths per case? I undetstand how cities can spread the virus faster, but that would mean more total cases not more deaths per case.

Quality of healthcare. Air quality. Overall stress levels and attitudes (positive/negative) effects on immune systems. Possibly use of hydroxychloroquine. There are reports of continuing use by doctors in FL. Florida bought a million doses at the time it went out of favor nationally. Probably a bunch more reasons...

you're kidding right? Yes, Florida has a lot of square miles but hardly anyone lives in the rural areas (except gators and poisonous snakes)

Why? You would not know by the media reports. The media only reports on number of cases but not number of deaths. FL also has a Republican governor so don't expect all of the facts to be reported by the media

Florida is doing so well because mostly young people are getting infected. But young people will eventually get the older people infected. This is why we see a several week delay between cases and deaths.

please define "young people" . The numbers do not lie. Average age of inpatient covid is over 60 years of age with comorbidities

average age of person dying from covid is over 70 years of age and again, they have comorbidities

During this entire lockdown period, and opening up, the old folks continued to be out and about. Now, they are masked up and it got worse. That's right.......masks ahoy but the number of positives increased

the mask is giving folks a false sense of security. Folks need to wash their hands and stop touching their face and eyes and throw out those silly masks.

According to experts, masks help prevent the spread of infected droplets if you are infected. I think we should mass-produce N95 masks and have people wear face shields at all. A lot safer.

Cuomo didn't mandate; he recommended with guidelines.

They should also try not to breathe when in the presence of anyone infected with the covid-19 virus.

and the problem with determining who is infected is that it's a moving target. We see governors stating things like you need a negative corona test that is 72 hours old before being allowed into their state. Guess what, lab results take 3-5 days and you could be positive the day after getting tested, yet have a negative result to show the state that you wish to enter.

It's time to focus on antibodies and testing for those. Donate blood and they test for that and if you have the antibodies, you can donate plasma which helps those who have severe symptoms, and we work toward herd immunity.

Masking up is giving a false sense of security and the 72-hour mandates of testing is useless. The virus is gong to run its course, masked up or not

I don't make it obvious, but I hold my breath as I walk past people. I don't know if it helps or not, but it's second nature now. If I say hello to someone I'm approaching, I say it further away than I used to. Ultimately, we will all be exposed to this at one time or another. I've managed to avoid it in spite of traveling, eating out, and working every day. My 18 year old tested positive yesterday, so I have been exposed. I tested negative this past morning.

Hope your 18 year old makes a complete recovery. How in the world did you get the test results back so fast?? Most of us wait 3-4 days.

My wife found a place that does their testing in house. Results in 15 minutes. It's in Corsicana TX.

My son works with our neighbor across the street and spends mostof the day withhim in a truck. He also has the China Virus. Either he gave it to my son or they both got it from the same source.

We are averaging a bit over 30 hours for results now. That includes the big problems where retesting occurs for some reason. The target is 24 hours and we are closing in on that goal.

That’s fast! I’m assuming that isn’t a government run outfit?

No, but the results do get reported to the CDC.

I tested negative yesterday, but I have a low grade fever today. Fun, fun. It looks like the antibody test I took on Tuesday may be useless.
