We talk about the economies of California and Texas here, but what grows Florida's economy? Tourism mainly or the Orange Juice Industry? Also, is their any technological headquarters based in Florida?
Southern Florida is overpopulated, and in many ways comparable to Southern California (minus California's tradition of liberalism that's a carry-over from the late 60s). Northern Florida is practically a part of Georgia. The citrus industry is getting pushed out by the higher cost of land, and in the more rural northern part of the state they occasionally have Winter freezes that make citrus growing more difficult. Probably the future of the citrus industry will get entirely pushed into Mexico. A big part of Florida's economy is that a lot of very wealthy people choose to locate there for the warm weather and "lifestyle" (or perception of lifestyle). But Florida definitely has problems, their economy is stagnant, and there was a lot of homelessness appearing out of the suburbs there during the Recession.
