    I recently graduated university...

Time to pay student loans! On top of the taxes I pay in my state for various services (no complaint here for paying taxes).

All of these payments, of course, on top of my part time job, as even the most qualified of graduates struggle to find full time. I am fortunate, I have had 2 jobs since graduated in May of '11, one full and part. I enjoy my jobs, but struggle to keep up with the bills and costs and of living when balanced my income.

Luckily, I have found out I am eligible for EBT supplemants. Food stamps! Hooray! Any shame? Nah, I look forward to the day I don't need them and won't use them, but until then, I really like the benefits of no sales tax on groceries (I live in the state with the highest sales tax) and the large amount of money I receive from them to feed one person ($120).

In essence, it's an effective trade. The cost I pay monthly my students loans is now balanced out by the government aided food stamps. So, in essence, money from my pocket that WOULD go to food is going to students loans, HOWEVER, I get food stamps, so I don't have to worry about the high costs of food and taxes on them to keep myself fed.

Before you judge, know that I am early 20's, white, and male, and have had success finding work. I qualify for food stamps, and (*)(*)(*)(*) right I'm gonna take advantage of them. Am I a leech? No, I really need the money. The government is great for this sort of aid, helping citizens in need.

I encourage all recent graduates, and anyone in general, to take advantage of the EBT program. Don't feel shamed, it is merely a supplement for income. If you feel you are not getting the most out of your tax dollars, and especially if you feel your dollars are going to waste, it's payback time.

Food stamps for everyone! Even the richest of the rich!

That my friends, is called 'economic equality'

    PEACE:bump:

Sounds good to me, you are basically just reducing your tax burden this way.

No, you're not a leech. Certainly less of a leech than some top-1% economic rent collector.

Congrats. Government spending surely has helped me in a similar way.

Hummm, so when exactly did the population decided that the government was for aid of so called "Needy" Citizens? I think this is the basis of all political troubles today.

If you qualify for them, you are not a leech for accepting them. Good on you.

The social contract theory on which it is based says it is not theft.

Aside from the obvious amendments, and pointing them out, the rest of this discussion is pointless.

Food stamps are perhaps the only form of welfare for which the sympathy somewhere in my heart can be found to give. They're considered by far the most economically efficient, by the way.

Government money has it's place, for sure.

You seem to have forgotten that many conservatives here don't believe that anyone should qualify for anything. After all, by doing that those who qualify are screwing all those hard working conservatives who also qualify for one thing or another, take it but don't state that, for fear of compromising their views with other conservatives who do the same.

Someone will, of course, be asking for proof even though they cannot prove the opposite.

I doubt he was excited about any 'give away'... I think he was more troubled between the 'pay debt or eat' problem he was facing.

More power to ya man, hope you enjoy having to submit your paycheck stubs and copies of all your bills and answer all those questions and have Government basically up your ass for the entire time you are on them.

LOL....but there is no Social Contract in the Constitution......if the Founders had intended government to provide for the poor.....they would have laid it out in black and white.

Well thoughout the history of the world......"Free Money Giveaways" tend to be 100% efficient. If you want to give away any of your money right now.......we can demonstrate.

It's implied, always. If you live somewhere, you agree to its status quo or else you move unless one of the many enumerated exceptions are triggered.

No. Food stamps have to be directly used on certain, usually necessary, goods. Thus, their multiplier is usually several fold other forms of welfare.

Food stamps should be the only form of welfare provided— something that provided the ability for one to live and nothing more. I cannot force someone to use their ration, as it is, appropriately. I cannot force them to use it wisely. If they choose to use it that way, then so be it. If they starve because of it, well at least we tried.

To qualify, if I'm not mistaken, you have to earn less than 1k a month; which is far, far below a suitable standard of living in almost every part of America. For each additional member, it's about $400 more— that's still not much even for a reasonable-sized household.

    I think most need it.

And I think most just like "Free Money".....and would still have plenty to eat without giving them the "Free Money"......albeit fresh water lobster and porterhouse steaks may no longer be on the Food Stamp Menu.

I am for doing good to the poor, but I differ in opinion of the means. -- I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. In my youth I travelled much, and I observed in different countries, that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.
