I am posting this in the elections forum because the chain of events leading up to Trump's impeachment and impending Senate trial have everything in the world to do with the 2020 elections.

Trump loses his impeachment team amid unfaltering loyalty from the GOP - CNNPolitics

Of course, Fox is painting it a different way:

LIVE UPDATES: Trump parts with lead impeachment lawyers a week before trial | Fox News

Lol.... as if Trump did the parting. LOL LOL LOL

Trump appears to be without a legal team as impeachment trial nears (nbcnews.com)

Trump changes defense team just over a week before impeachment trial is set to begin - The Washington Post

Sooooo, this is going to be fun!

Just the reminder: the deadline for Trump to send his Brief of intent to the Senate is February 2nd, 2021. Today is January 31st, 2021. He has two days to get this done and I doubt that anyone is going to grant him an extension.

    Low-energy!!! Loser!!! SORE Loser!!!

He can do nothing - 0.000000000% change he gets convicted
Republicans have made their decision. They have been bullied into full subservience to Trump

It doesn't make sense to me that he had Giuliani arguing that their cases were not based on election fraud but now he wants to focus on that. Why wasn't any proof of that submitted to the courts long before now? Why would anybody be willing to hear that since they've already certified the election counts?

Why does he bother to hire (using term loosely since he is known for not paying people) attorneys and then ignore everything they suggest?

Oh yeah, the old anonymous source. I heard over the fence doncha know that the cow jumped right on up over the moon. Whereupon the little dog laughed to see such a sport, and the dish went and ran off with the spoon....hand to God. But don't quote me.

Well it's pretty simple. The Orange One wants his lawyers to stand in front of Congress and claim election fraud, including
allegations that Dominion orchestrated it. The lawyers know they have no proof of that claim and know that Dominion
is going to slap them with a $1.3 Billion dollar defamation lawsuit as they already have with Rudy and Crazy Lady Lawyer.
It doesn't take a genius to figure out why those lawyers are leaving the Orange One's case.

Don't underestimate Trump. IMO he's got two plays going at once. The first is digging his claws even further into the Republican Party and putting sitting members on notice as to what he (or rather his supporters) can do to their political careers if they vote for impeachment. Based on how the numbers are firming up it looks like he's scared enough of them into place to ensure he won't be impeached.

Which brings in the second play. If he is confident of avoiding impeachment (which seems to be the case at the movement at least) then he has the opportunity to try and turn entire hearing into theater and then use it to push his 'the election was stolen' mantra right into the heart of Government and onto center stage on national media. And his supporters will eat it up. If I had to guess I'd say he will try and leverage his trial and public exoneration into a springboard for launching his campaign for 2024 as soon as he leaves the building and all before the Biden's have even finished unpacking. (And that's assuming he don't do so during the hearing - which I wouldn't put past him.)

If I had to guess he's looking for lawyers who can buy him the talking space, not prove his innocence. He doesn't need anyone to do that because in his estimation he's not going to get convicted anyway. So I Trump will try and turn the impeachment into a 'show' trial himself with him as the star.

A bit off-topic, but this is a good example of how two sources can report the same thing, and while both can be true, the message can be quite different. The dots are there, but arranged a little differently.
