It has been that way since the first black folks stepped on these shores.

Anyone keeping up with the trial? Seems like there's gonna end up being more riots with the information starting to come out.

Looks like the prosecution presented a VERY weak case ending it after two days and 16 witnesses. Also disclosed they with-held vital information from the defense.

"Murtha moved for a mistrial, saying prosecutors had withheld evidence that Gray had told a police officer in March, a month before his fatal injury, "I hurt my back. I have a bad back.""

One of the medical examiners testified there was no evidence of a previous injury. This goes to and discredits Gray's claim he was injured and needed to go to the hospital and the officers were negligent and showed a "depraved heart" necessary for a conviction in taking him there immediately.

The Judge should have honored the request for a mistrial, seems like he is doing everything he can to get a guilty verdict, but told the defense they could enter it into evidence when they present their case.

I think the judge wants a guilty verdict as well but it's seeming hard to get one now with this withheld information.

Case ended early today so he could review legal actions. Starts back tomorrow with the defense probably grilling the prosecution about this.

I'm hoping they aren't gonna give in to the mob, which will definitely burn Baltimore to the ground if their demands aren't met and charges don't come.

It certainly set up an appeal if there is a conviction. This states attorney has proven herself, like the mayor, a total incompetent.

I'm not following the trial, but don't have to to know the outcome. The prosecutor overcharged so they can get off. This is a done deal playing out.

I am not sure they can get a fair trail in this city, they will be found guilty by this lynch mob.

It seems the states attorney, the prosecution team and the judge have thrown justice out the window in order to placate a segment of the population. And that is a travesty of our justice system.

So the defense starts their case now. They will be calling the other passenger as a witness. If he gives the original report of no rough ride, does that not wrap this case up almost? Seat belt would be the only charge I could see sticking in that case. Dude shouldn't have stood in a moving vehicle

Defense Expert pathologist Di Maio says this was an accident, and accidents happen. Also believes injury occurred between stops 5 and 6,not 2 and 4 as the prosecution ME stated.

This is the guy that gave George Zimmermans exhonorating testimony also.

Got a source for live updates, I understand it is not being covered live with cameras in the courtroom.

    OK Found it

    http://live.baltimoresun.com/Event/Officer_William_Porter_trial_Freddie_Gray_case_live_coverage

"Opinion: Asked about the Maryland medical examiner's conclusion that Freddie Gray's death from injuries sustained in police custody was a homicide, Dr. Vincent DiMaio, one of the nation's leading forensic pathologists, said: "I'd have to respectfully disagree, and I know a number of other medical examiners do. It would be more appropriate to have classified this case as either an accident or 'undetermined,' because the way it's being called a homicide is, in a way, something that a jury has to decide. A medical examiner is not a lawyer, is not a jury. … They're saying [Gray's death] was not an unforeseen event. That's something for a jury to decide, not the doctor to decide.""

    And

"The first defense witness in the trial of Officer William Porter on Wednesday disputed the prosecution's timeline for when Freddie Gray was injured and said the local medical examiner got it wrong when she ruled Gray's death a homicide.

Dr. Vincent Di Maio, a forensic pathologist and former chief medical examiner in San Antonio, said Gray's injury was "so violent, it's so high-energy," that it would have immediately caused Gray to lose control of his body and his diaphragm, which is critical for breathing and speaking.

"This has all the appearances of a single catastrophic injury," he said.

The injury had essentially "cut off the head from the body" in a neurological sense, Di Maio testified. He said Gray's spinal cord was 80 percent crushed.

"You had a head and a body and they were disconnected," he said. "You aren't feeling anything. You aren't able to move. He was paralyzed. He was quadriplegic."

Di Maio said he believed Gray was injured between the fifth and sixth stops, and that his death was not a homicide as state medical examiner Dr. Carol Allan found, but an accident.

"It's just an accident," he said, "and accidents happen."

Chief Deputy State's Attorney Michael Schatzow, upon cross examining Di Maio, questioned why Di Maio had accepted claims from other witnesses that Gray was found in a different position at the last, sixth stop from the one he was in at the fifth stop. Porter said in his statement that Gray was in the same position.

Schatzow also questioned Di Maio's use of a MRI that was taken of Gray's spine several hours after the injury occurred. Di Maio said that the hospital would have put Gray in a brace that would preserve the injury, so that it wouldn't have changed much. He also said he relied on a CT scan from shortly after the injury.

Schatzow pointed out that Gray's spinal cord was not 100 percent cut, and questioned whether Di Maio was sure that Gray would not have been able to speak at the fourth stop in which he talked with Porter.

    "Impossible?" Schatzow asked.

    "Yes sir," Di Maio said.

    "Completely impossible," Schatzow asked.

    "Yes, sir."

Porter asked why didn't he seat belt gray. He said no one is seat belted due to cramped space and their gun holder on prisoner side

Porter testifies he did not call for medical attention for Gray because "he was unable to give any reason for any kind of medical emergency"

Porter says he was a trainee when an instructor shot another trainee [attempting to buckle him in]; academy staff was rotated out. Background: baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/…

Prosecution case is falling apart. I honestly see no reason for these charges other than departmental misconduct to stick

City leaders are holding a conference calling for peace and respect no matter what the verdict is. There will be no tolerance of people hurting others.

Temporary barriers being put up in front of the police department. They know what's coming.
