It appears that, for the first time since its introduction in 1994, the Violence Against Women Act will not be renewed. It expired on September 30th of last year. Allegedly due to new provisions proposed by the Democrats that extend its coverage to Native American communities (allowing them to prosecute abuse independently), undocumented immigrants, and gay and lesbian people, the Republican Party aims to block the renewal entirely. (The new version also adds a provision to include protection from stalking.) Methinks that's just an excuse. These people simply hate women in general, not 'just' minority women and homosexual people, and they've proven as much more times than I can count this last year. They have the power to filibuster the VAWA renewal it in the Senate (thus preventing passage) and control a large majority in the House of Representatives, ensuring that it is unlikely to get to the president's desk.

The VAWA is a very important piece of legislation. The United Nations credits the law with the 58 percent decline in the incidence of sexual assaults in America since its passage under Bill Clinton, among other things. The law provides transitional shelter and legal counsel for victims as well as stiffer sentencing for abusers. Why would anyone be against that??

Failure to renew it will unquestionably result in a major spike in sexual assaults and EVERYONE knows it. To stand in the way of the renewal of this legislation is to declare that you're cool with rape and abuse of women, period, end of debate, end of story.

    More on this story.

I think you're right ... just wait until they get into the Voting Booth; or is the GOP going to dream up a different ID System for Women?

I think this bogus pandering to identity politics only matters to the same women who would vote for Obama anyway.

You just lost all credibility. Someone who commits a crime by entering this country ILLEGALLY does not deserve a PC label.

Not only that but it expired in SEPT. Where was the media attention on this previous to Rush's "slut" rant? Oh that is right it didnt exist. This is only an issue NOW... Why is that.. Because Obama is DESPERATE to get re-elected.

My current plan is to vote for Jill Stein of the Green Party. (See my signature.) And frankly, even many Republican women are beginning to come out against their own party's position on this. (See the linked articles in the OP for high-profile examples.)

More importantly, what exactly is "bogus" about this anyway? Enlighten me. In fact, why don't you share all your insights on the needs and rights of women with us? I've got a minute.

You acknowledged my question but failed to answer it.

    So I'll offer it again.

I thought women were no longer considered the weaker sex.

Is that just another lib myth that is being exposed?

Perhaps you could either agree of disagree with the OP's content, instead of blithering on.

So you should be able to beat, rape, murder illegals?

The Right is really coming out on this one!

Native Americans are a sovereign nation under the Commerce Clause in the U.S. Constitution. But they are also American citizens. I believe the GOP wants this issue to be looked at a little closer rather than just simply jumping the gun like the Democrat Party is prone to do simply for the sake of minority votes.

    I think I have.

Polly and the Democrats in congress are arguing that women are weak and need special protection under the law.

And that is at odds with what our domestic bra burners have been saying for the past 30 years.

Strawman. Laws already cover them. They dont need extra protection. :confuse:

If illegal aliens are beating their women up at a faster rate than Americans that is just more reason to deport all the illegals.

    From the OP's own source:

"Republicans have argued that they are not opposed to the Violence Against Women Act as it was passed before, but they don't like new provisions that would extend greater protections to undocumented immigrants, gays and transgender individuals and would grant more authority to tribal prosecutors.

"I think it's things that have never been in the Violence Against Women Act, because if we had just a straight reauthorization, it would pass 100 percent," said Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa), the ranking Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee."

Are undocumented immigrants, gays and transgender individuals all women now? Don't most domestic violence laws already protect them? Polly and the Huff Po have already shown us why this is just crass political theater by the Democrats in an attempt to save themselves from a landslide loss this November. It isn't going to work because women want jobs and affordable gas too.

As with class warfare, and race warfare, the gender warfare must be perpetuated by the Democrats at all costs.

That's right all you LIB idiots the REP "hate" all women and they are waging a "war" on women. You know why? Because REPs are too stupid to understand that without the women's vote the REPs couldn't elect a dog catcher. At least in moronic LIB's minds. Nice try but no cigar idiots. ANY woman with an IQ higher than room temperature sees right through the LIBs latest pathetic attempt to take votes away from the REPs. The LIBs are so dumb they don't understand that it's the 'Indie' women's vote that will win the election for or against Obama. Every time one of you LIBs fools attempts to throw up BS you lose women's votes. Obama rating has dropped like a stone since he attempted to pull the "REPs war on women" crap. The best part is Obama and Axelrod now get it. Notice how Axelrod has pulled out of going on that pig Maher's "comedy" show? You can bet your last twinke if Axelrod thought he could have gotten a single more vote he would be going on Maher's show.

Their internal polling numbers are no doubt horrific, so they are desperate to find an issue to attack the GOP with.

Believe me, every conservative-congressional woman .... who are in fact women-haters .... who they don't showcase in their videos .... need to be wearing Burkas ...
