New York legislators want to require you to submit social media history and browser search history to apply for license renewals to own a gun in New York.

"Under the proposed legislation, law enforcement officials could investigate "commonly known profane slurs used or biased language used to describe race, national origin, ancestry, gender, religion, disability or sexual orientation; threatening health or safety of another person, or an act of terrorism."

That means that most Christians who don't accept that sexual orientation is normal will not be allowed to own guns if they have ever said so on social media. Is this where blue states are going? Count me out.

They will not be going after pro choice Christians. Unless you are talking about blowing up an abortion clinic. Then I hope they go after those nuts hard

What of those that deny they have any Social Media accounts or use browsers, proxy services, routinely delete browser histories (a simple setting in many), use non tracking browsers, or don’t use computers to begin with?
The legislation proposal is about as feasible as requiring people to take an oath not to commit crimes as a means of control.
Interesting to me is many have the opinion that gun control is one of the steps toward social control. Hmmm, what next? Will NY start mandating people to wear GPS enabled body cameras 24/7? To use only approved browsers? Outlaw internet anonymity as some in the US and the UK Have suggested...

What of the 4th and 5th Amendments?
Funny, many that want to infringe on gun rights also advocate subverting other individual rights protected by the BOR.
Interesting too, NY is proposing infringing on digital privacy while the EU is moving the other direction with GDPR legislation.

I do not engage in "social media", my browser keeps no history, and I use exclusively a search engine that doesn't track me or maintain a record of my searches. I wonder what they would say to me?

Mass shootings is a tiny percentage of murders. You're missing the huge majority of liberals who kill each other in inner cities every night. 38 in just this month in Chicago. 536 year to date. Why do you not want law abiding people to be able to defend themselves? Do you not like liberals?

Terrorism is terrorism and denying them weapons surely cannot be a bad idea?

How do you know they are terrorists until they commit an act of terrorism or other crime?

Is it a felony to hold politically incorrect social and political positions?
If no, on what grounds can someone be denied their right to keep and bear arms?

Well, since they are already advocating compromising BOA protections, they may require you to approved social media and an approved browser.
A sobering and ominous thing these days is that it’s extremely difficult to not have a digital footprint, enough so that you can be profiled; whether accurately is another question.
Carry a phone? Your movements can be tracked and recorded. Your social network tracked by your calls.
Use charge cards or debit cards for purchases? Every purchase is tracked that not only reveals what you have purchased but can be used to profile your interests. One reason, BTW, I never buy anything related to guns or ammo with anything but cash. Thinking along those lines... there are a number of people that advocate eliminating physical currency for digital... further opening transaction tracking.
Don’t use social media or traceable browsers (I use one I built written in C) Apple and Microsoft both collect telemetry collected from any machine you run their OSs on...very hard to disable if you are connected to the internet. (Not difficult to verify it is happening without your explicit approval, but often implicit approval by accepting deliberately deceptive user agreements.)
People are being tracked, personal information collected, profile by a huge range of means by many players. Personal information has become an extremely valuable commodity, sold by many of those collecting it. Though possibly existing without general knowledge, is an entity that coordinates and integrates the personal information about individuals in a common database (NSA, maybe?).
I often suggest we are among the last generation that will know liberty. The information and tools are there to slowly implement social control as long envisioned by the leaders of the collective. Something I suspect many on the left here are watching with baited breath is China’s proposed Social Credit system, a concept adapted from the US’s FICA system.

    Nah... tyranny can’t happen here.

All true. I just watched an Amazon movie called "The Creepy Line" that went in depth about Google and Facebook's influence on society, and their collection of data on their users. It was very good, and illustrates exactly why I do not use their services.

I built a pi-hole for my network that prevents any devices in my house from communicating with Google's servers. You would be amazed how much traffic smart TVs generate to telemetry collectors. My samsung tv tries to talk 24/7 to a backend server at Samsung, even when it's turned off.

Beyond the fact that such legislation will allow those tasked with issuing permits to engage in viewpoint discrimination, and deny permits to those who hold dissenting views that they do not support? That denials will be even more arbitrary than they already are?

What exactly is there to the proposal that is worth supporting?

They want to deny you the right to own a gun if you use the words ****** or *****. Oops! I just lost my gun rights.

Never mind that I've served in the military, never been arrested, and been through federal background checks several times per year for the last 25 years.

If you make pro-2A posts you obviously are too dangerous to have a gun.
