Happy 242nd to all Sailors and Sailor supporters.

Bedsides being "Friday the 13th", today is also the 242nd Birthday of the US Navy.

    http://navylive.dodlive.mil/2017/10/12/happy-242nd-birthday-u-s-navy/
The 242nd birthday of our Navy on Oct. 13 honors the brave men and women who conduct a wide range of combat, training, humanitarian, rescue and other missions worldwide, protecting our interests, promoting our security, and helping to shape our nation’s history and culture.
Statement from President Donald J. Trump
on the 242nd Birthday of the United States Navy

As Commander in Chief of our Armed Forces, it is an honor to celebrate the 242nd birthday of the United States Navy.

Today, we recognize generations of brave men and women who have served in the United States Navy. Through their courage, selfless service, and unmatched professionalism, America’s sailors have projected American power on the seas, on land, and in the air. Today, the Navy continues to deter our enemies and confront the threats posed by terrorists and rogue nations around the world.

As we proudly celebrate the legacy of our Navy, we are all reminded of the duty we share to support our service members, military families, and veterans. Earlier this year, I commissioned the USS Gerald R. Ford into service—marking our Nation’s renewed commitment to providing our military with the tools and technology needed to preserve peace and win any war.

We are making progress on this commitment, but we remain forever indebted to all who serve and sacrifice, Non Sibi Sed Patriae—Not For Self, But For Country. I proudly salute these American heroes, especially those who gave their lives in defense of our Nation.

May God bless the men and women of our great Navy and all our Armed Forces. And may He continue to bless the United States of America.

Well don't tell that to the men who drug burning bodies off the deck and saved their lives. All are damn good men. Anchors Away and To the Shores of Tripoli, that Tripoli part came from the reason Jefferson created them to fight the Barbary Pirates who were kidnapping our ships and enslaving our people in trade routes.

    Happy birthday Navy!

A question. What the **** is up with all the steam pipes? Every navel base, every one, I've ever been on has steam pipes running along, near and over every ****ing road, port and foot path. What's the love?

The cost of upgrading ports to 21st Century technology is outweighed by the cost of upgrading ships.

Don't forget the hot meals and a bunk. I saw both sides during my career; 10 years in the Marine Corps and 11 in the Navy. What ships were you deployed aboard?

From a guy who chose college frat parties (think "Animal House") over military service, a sincere thanks to everyone who has served and still serves in the U.S. Military, including my father who served one year at Fort Dix, NJ and one year in Bangkok, Thailand as a radio operator. I admire you.

I managed to avoid it for the most part. After I lat moved into 6484 we went to desert storm on the SS Wright. Of course it broke down on the way and we got to spend some time in Alaska ;)

Ummm, the Brits were courageous, but not that honorable. Let's not forget who colonized whom, who warred on whom and who, in the end, needed the help of the Yanks not once, but twice in one century to pull their bacon out of the fire.

Umm, let's not forget, without the Brits and the Commonwealth, there wouldn't be any bacon to be pulled out of the fire. The US was way late both times to both WW's......to the benefit of the US. The Brits were more than honorable......and remain so.

Why should the US be mixed up with Euro affairs right from the beginning? In fact, why was the US involved in WWI at all?

Disagreed on the Brits; let's not forget the War of 1812 was all about them shanghaiing US merchant sailors....much less how the US came to be because the Brits were asshats about how they treated others.

Are you a Brit or just a Tory?

Sorry Max, if you're going to be the "land of the free and the home of the brave" you have to step up and be part of the democracy dance. If you don't know why the US was finally 'encouraged' to take part in WW I, you should look it up. And, the war of 1812 was about much more than some sailors dragged off US flagged ships. What is more shocking is how the US did so poorly in this war.......

I do know why we were in WWI, I just don't agree with it. If you do, please state your case.

Yes, aside from the Battle of New Orleans, which took place after the war ended, the US didn't fare well against the British Empire. However, like Rocky against Apollo Creed, just going 15 rounds with the champ and surviving was enough. Tories exist today in the US. What's odd to me are Brits who move to the US but continue to rant about how great the British Empire was.
