I was actually banned from the Politics Only sub forum on road bike review. It was breathtaking how the moderators did everything they could to shut me down and finally banned me forever. And this after I had tested and published bicycle tire rolling resistance data with no charge that was used by several Euro Pro teams.

 

The moderators of this forum do seem to have preferences in the manner of b and and who they place them on. They seem to think that whatever they decide is the unspoken meaning behind a statement is what is true and that their decisions just cannot be challenged.

 

My liberal friends in person have theatened to no longer be my friend when they learned of my views. I suspect they would retaliate in non violent ways.

My conservative friends are not offended by my views, but they do back off a bit in fear that I will attack them. They come back when they realize I'm not like that.

My views are moderate, and even my views are enough to set people off. I've learned to only debate online.

 

I was once 'abused' by Progressives known to me - when I expressed my liberal views on freedom on speech, upon direct questioning. IE, defending the right of those I don't agree with to have and express ideas I don't agree with.

Generally though, when I'm around Progs I take the path of least resistance. I play dumb, IOW. It prevents meltdowns (on their part), and it gives them a boost to feel they've educated me. They're such fragile creatures, and soooo psychically dependent upon received dogma that any sign of variance upsets them deeply. I regard it as a sort of Public Mental Health Service.

 

Liberals would never do that. Liberal means accepting of difference.

I think you mean something else. Progressive, perhaps.

 

Well, my conservative friends have disliked me too, for my abortion views. Depends how late term. They just debate about the first trimester, cry about the second trimester, and are very judgement about the speaker with the third trimester.

My progressive friends where upset when I said that someone with down syndrome should not be allowed to reproduce if they need tax payer aid for their condition and would likely pass it on. They compared me to Hitler.

 

I have suffered a few attacks from left and right for my centrist views.

 

I have also yet don't give a fyck.

 

It all depends on what 'abuse' means and includes. If such a thing as verbal abuse exists, I have suffered a hell of a lot of it over 45 years. A lot more since I have been posting on internet sites, just like this.

 

Most "classical" liberals have moved to our Independent voter category. Liberalism in this country is more synonymous with "marxist".

I used to be a Democrat in the 80's and early 90's. Bill Clinton's policies in the 90's sound like what they'd call "alt-right" now.

 

Everyone is Hitler if they don't agree with a leftist.

That's their justification to hit you in the face with a bike lock or stab you.

I was called a colonist and told to shut the hell up because I felt this generation of civil rights leaders are weak and lack a willingness to sacrifice like those in the 50's and 60's.

 

A while back I mentioned in a post that my son served in the Marine Corps, and a member here responded saying he hoped my son would be killed in action.

Classy, huh?

 

Hm, wish there were multiple options. I'm a libertarian. I have some views that fit on the left (especially socially) and some views that fit on the right (especially economically). I've never had a leftist threaten me, but maybe that is just because I haven't lived around many of them. I've had several right wingers threaten me, but more for being a long-haired skinny "sissy" kid than for my views, though sometimes for my views too. Now that I'm above-average weight and I've cut my hair, I don't get those kinds of threats. I used to go to the commons at my university and argue with the evangelists there, and that's where most of the views-based threats came from. I got a few threats when I was younger for looking a little too Jewy in the wrong part of town, but I don't know if that was based on perceived "view" or racism. The only actual physical attack came when someone threw a bag of ice at me and my friend from the back of a truck as they were driving by. It glanced my arm and bruised me up pretty bad, but nothing broken. Judging from their bumper stickers, they were right wingers. Judging from the words they were screaming when they did it, it was because they thought I was gay. A few immigrants got attacked in the same area around the same time.

of course, who hasn't, people suffer abuse for no reason whatsover... just because someone else is in a bad mood...it's the jerkernet

 

My therapist of 4 visit just gave up on me for believing that there is a lot of reverse sexism in USA.

Many Liberals treat anyone who disagrees with them like criminals.

 

Believe it or not -- it was safer to criticize Brezhnev in USSR 1981 then to be Politically Incorrect offline in USA 2018.

 

So do a lot of Conservatives, CCitizen.

Sad but true -- online abuse happens to most people who are on Social Media.
