Hearings on abortion legislation commence today in Dublin. This is specifically in relation to legislation for the x case allowing terminations in the case where it was established as a matter of probability that there is a risk to the life as distinct from the health of the mother.

This is officially a response to the ABC judgement against Ireland. Though I believe that without the flurry of publicity that followed the death of Savita the issue would probably have been pushed under the mat again as it has been for the last twenty years.

I think it is to be welcomed but would prefer a repeal of the eight to allow for a termination in the cases of rape, threat to health of the mother and fatal fetal abnormality.

But baby steps and in all the cases above abortion is readily available from our nearest neighbour.
