Heavy Metal #2

Here's a little proto-Metal for y'all...

PBS re-broadcasted this Emmy Award winning episode of American Masters recently and it reminded me of how much Jimi Hendrix contributed to the Heavy Metal genre. You can hear the sounds of things to come in many of the riffs and solos in this great documentary.

If you haven't seen this and you've got an hour to burn, I highly recommend that you watch and listen to it. I'm sure you won't be disappointed:

my last ever concert was DIO in LA at the Greek w/ plenty of Rainbow and Sabbath classics played. A couple rows in front of me in the audience were none other than a couple guys from Metallica. No kidding. DIO played Stargazer, Tarot Woman, Children of the Sea, plus others from his former bands. Sounded outstanding.

Ya know - when SLAYER came out with the 'War Ensemble' video just prior to the 1991 illegal invasion of Iraq, Gulf War 1 - I thought and told all my friends it was 'war propaganda'.

Notice the chorus - "Sport the war, war support." As if SLAYER were cheering on the soldiers. Did Kerry King and co. take CIA contract $$$ money?

Even a die-hard thrash fan like me and my circle of friends had all the classic thrash albums and t-shirts - hell all of suburban Michigan did - any band is corruptible - look at Megadeth singer Dave Mustaine and most of Hollywood - they're not Liberals, they're 90% Republicans!
