Labor has already given up trying to justify its carbon tax to the Australian people, Opposition Leader Tony Abbott says.
Mr Abbott says a week after the national tax on carbon emissions was introduced, Prime Minister Julia Gillard has essentially "given up the fight".
Publicly Labor was avoiding the subject while privately its members were already discussing changes to the tax, he told reporters on the Gold Coast on Saturday.
"This is the tax that dare not speak its name (and) meanwhile, inside the government, there is all this talk of trying to change the tax," Mr Abbott said.
"My message to the government - the Australian people's message to the government - is that this is a toxic tax ... and the only way to fix it is to axe it."

The opposition leader reiterated his vow to do just that if the coalition won government at the next federal election.
He was commenting during a visit to a popular local pie shop at Yatala, on the Gold Coast's northern fringe, as part of his campaign against the carbon tax.
He said the store was typical of tens of thousands of Australian businesses that were "under the gun" because of the tax.
The opposition leader toured the shop's on-site bakery, where he tried his hand at making some pies with the federal MP for Ford, Burt van Manen.

    ============================================
Abbott is more supportive of working Australians than the ALP at the moment. Working people, and small businesspeople deserve credible representation, which we haven`t been getting for many a long year now. The carbon tax, forced upon us by this union owned goverment, including Julia the union puppett, will disadvantage ordinary Australians more than those who can afford to pay for it`s costs. Don`t be deceived by the flimsy spin of the government, that the cost of living hasn`t risen much since last Sunday, so everything is just fine. There hasn`t been enough time for this big new tax to manifest itself in the form of price rises. The cost of living will rise under the carbon tax, and those who can least afford more cost of living pressure will be hurt the most. Gina Rhinehart won`t lose too much weight, Clive Palmer won`t fade away to a shadow, but Mr & Mrs Average Aussie willl feel the pinch.

"There is no such thing as a free lunch."

We have fossil fuels in abundance which have helped us keep our head above water during the GFC and Gillard is going to penalize them (fossil fuels).

We are the only country in the world that has carbon pricing at $23/tonne the most expensive in the world.

And we aren't even in the top ten polluting nations on Earth.

Australia's emissions are 1.5% of all manmade CO2 emissions.

While our compeditors have no carbon pricing at all.

TOXIC is right, i agree with Abbott on this one.

Oh, a country with 0.3% of the world's population produces 1.5% of its CO2 emissions?

Yeah, that's nothing to worry about.

Just a little fuel to the fire,

    http://www.countercurrents.org/polya180711.htm

For all those who have trouble, this treasury modelling shows that inspite carbon tax emissions will actually rise. and that is by 155.5 MT. which must be negated by a peice of paper.

I know treasury is not exactly a good source, but many here, at this time, would like to lay their faith in treasury as a good source.
