House GOP expands ESG inquiry to major asset managers

The company is rated based on a esg score and this score is used to determine investment decisions. This means companies can get better esg scores by creating social programs like racial sensitivity training, or taking action to reduce CO2 emissions, etc..
They do so then to increase there esg and make themselves more attractive to investors.

Does this make sense?

 

You haven't answered my question. How are these firms forcing an ideology on anyone? By not disclosing the nature of their investments? I agree that's not good, but how is that forcing anything? Are we not free to Google the companies that our 401k invests in? Are we not then free to move our money into a different mutual fund if we find something objectionable?

I doesn't it pressures its customers, not its investors, to adopt their woke policies. They do it by threatening the loss of funding. This isn't magic information. It comes from Black Rock. In any case, you are free to invest with other providers, who, instead of the low expense ratios of Vanguard slap on a 1.5% ER.
