Houston's iconic Art Car Museum to close for good in April (chron.com) Changing demographic of the town and high other stuff cost made this place and their other museum a place people didn't go to.
Seems from the article like the deaths of the founders with no planning to keep the museum going past their deaths is why it is closing.
The car shows still happen. That is run by a different group The Orange Show's Houston Art Car Parade & Festival (thehoustonartcarparade.com)
Houston isn't going to a population that will pay the electric bill for that building all year long. There wacky liberal other type of museum closed also. A Latino isn't going to spend money to see a cross hanging inside a bottle of piss.
Museums come and go, especially these little niche private ones. We had one that went last year that cost $50 which was a rip off to get into and one about 5 years ago that was free to get into but it was almost impossible unless you booked a group visit or else they weren't ever really open.
Houston is no longer a white people town so the more wacky things that get a select group is first to close. Not a chance to keep the electric on in the place all year long.
