Interestingly, it is Okinawans who are more closely related to the Ainu and the researchers compared the DNA of 36 Ainu, 35 native Okinawans, and 243 people living in Honshu in Japan and they found that the DNA of the Ainu bore closest similarity to people who had lived for generations in Okinawa. This is because Okinawa was not overrun by the Yayoi migrants from the Korean Peninsula and Okinawans are close to the purebread Japanese with Ainu heritage (over 60%). Moreover, Hokkaido, the northernmost island of Japan, was predominantly inhabited by the Ainu until the late 19th century and the Hokkaido Ainu were forced to adopt Japanese surnames, which is why it looks as if the Ainu were exterminated. And another genetic study found that Okinawans have no genetic links with the Taiwanese people despite the geographical proximity of these two islands.

Why are you saying the Maori are more civilized than aboriginal australians? Neither one of them had a large civilization before colonization.

Aboriginal Australians were illiterate and they could barely count to five when the British arrived, which was why Australia was declared terra nullius or "land belonging to no one" in Latin, but the Maori already had a sophisticated social structure at the time and they signed a treaty with British representatives to allow limited British colonisation of New Zealand. As a result, Maori land rights were historically well-protected from British settlers and New Zealand enjoys better race relations than Australia perhaps because it was not set up as a penal colony to accommodate a convict population.
