Can you please supply a link to the quote? A lot depends on the context.

I'm assuming it means he had such a strong imagination that he could manipulate the objects he imagined in his mind.

He didn't need to blueprint and then create it as a real object to examine it.

He was able to skip that step until he had perfected the thing in his mind. He was constantly going over each part and revising it all in his head.

I wouldn't say he was crazy, just thinking in 21st century terms in the 19th. No more crazy than anyone talking about FTL and immortality today, we're just less dismissive of far thinking ideas because of how much faster technology progresses now. He was a bit odd but then most geniuses are eccentric.

Quantum Sting Theory is pretty wild. It works on vibrations and frequencies.

You mind also works on frequencies. Using the superwave principal you can up the frequency of your brain so that it can interact with the frequency of the universes or other things.

So who knows, the human mind could be helping the very fabric of the universe.

Atlantis was said to have tapped into these frequencies using crystals.

Stuff like this is left up to imagination.

Seems like he could form a mental image of what he was working on and manipulate that in his mind, an impressive ability of mental dexterity and focus.

“I soon discovered that my best comfort was attained if I simply went on in my vision further and further, getting new impressions all the time, and so I began to travel; of course, in my mind. Every night, (and sometimes during the day), when alone, I would start on my journeys – see new places, cities and countries; live there, meet people and make friendship and acquaintances…

This I did constantly until I was about seventeen, when my thoughts turned seriously to invention. Then I observed to my delight that I could visualize with the greatest facility. I need no models, drawings or experiments. I could picture them all as real in my mind… I do not rush into actual work. When I get an idea, I start at once building it up in my imagination. I change the construction, make improvements and operate the device in my mind. It is absolutely immaterial to me whether I run my turbine in thought or test it in my shop.”

I think he meant he could see how his ideas work in his mind...

In short I think he meant "visualize" - immigrants have a tendency to describe ideas because they just don't know the English language that well and don't know the word that describes a concept...

That's funny, last night I was watching a Linda Howe documentary where she was talking about this guy (I don't recall his name) that basically said things only exist because we believe they do - basically manifestation though subconsciousness...

I don't know if I can buy that, however interesting none the less...
