Wierd. I think of Catholic priests living in cinderblock houses (like their flocks), spending their days preaching to the poor in Haiti, while working hard at getting enough rice and beans and medical care for them. I think of hard-working evangelicals serving meals at a soup kitchen in the inner cities. I guess it's a matter of what you want to see.

I don't really care about the Crystal Cathedral. I'm not of his faith, nor will I ever be. I can only worry about what I'm in control of. When I donate to Food for the Poor, I know that 98% of the money will go towards the poor in the Caribbean.

I refuse to vote in a poll that has very biased options. I never see a liberal/leftist post a fair poll on this forum.

How arrogant to place a figure on what anyone should "donate". You sound awfully jealous. Take a self-help course, you lack personal esteem.

I support a land value and natural resource tax.

Wealthy people who got most of their money from the ownership of land should pay more taxes than people that earned their money from working.

I think high level corporate executives should also be taxed more. Their exhorbitant salaries and bonuses are rarely ever fully justified. It is theft from the stockholders.

How can you possibly stand for equality then want someone else to pay a higher percentage. There is no equality in that concept. They would pay the same amount if we had a flat national sales tax and that amount would be higher because they have more buying power. Common sense.

I'm good with that, IF you eliminate all tax breaks for capital gains and investments which favor the wealthy because they have more disposable income and apply your national sales tax to such investments. The problem with so-called equal taxes is that the concept never meets reality as loopholes and tax exemptions are ALWAYS passed by Congress at the behest of the wealthy. That same larger disposable income means that wealthy people don't spend the same percentage of their money on things that can be taxed by a national sales tax, so that amount is actually lower because they have more buying power.

Take borrowing, for example. Leaving aside the case where you simply don't have to borrow because you have pots of money. who gets better terms when they borrow $200k? The wealthy individual with large amounts of securable assets and a rock-solid credit rating or the average individual with a good credit rating and not as much in the way of securable assets? In other words, the average individual ends up paying more than does the wealthy individual for the same loan.

Have you ever heard of FREEDOM? It is our money. We, individually, and only we should decide how much or how little we donate.

    FREEDOM, An anti-liberal concept.

They would find a way to get around it, as they already do (tax loopholes). Elimination of tax loopholes make an environment in which it is more profitable for corporations to just pay the taxes instead of hiring a circus of attorneys to help them take advantage of the system. Big bad GE has a team of around 1000 lawyers that help them get massive tax credits in recent years.

Tax exemptions for business help the business get started and help secure a solid future. Those businesses hire people, like you or me, pay them a wage and give benefit packages. Their risk is by far higher than the workers risk.

They pay less because they will more than likely pay it back...their track record so indicates.

I think your numbers are low for NBA stars..Baseball steroid users..hockey goons..and crybaby NFL players.

Also all politicians should pay much higher..college professors who never see the classroom..and doctors should pay nurses who do 80 % of their work for them..Oil companies should pay into a system like Alaska has..where the people get a share of the profits..based upon gallons used..not just for being.

Poor people should be required to BE MORE than they are now..just being isn't a reason to get money..
Or fighting to take from those that are successful.

Doesn't matter if a person is dirt poor or filthy rich, how much each should donate to charity is their business and their business alone. Not my business or yours.

If liberals want the rich to donate more to charity, there is an absolutely simple way to achieve that. Allow unlimited charitable deductions from ones tax liability. If one is allowed to donate $100,000,000.00 and deduct it from their taxes rather than hand it over to the govt to squander and waste. Many will do exactly that, to the benefit of the poor.

I think most people would want them to contribute the same percentage in Tax as everyone else does......instead of nothing!
    There just dues!
They can chose exactly how much they wish to commit to charity but if its anything like the tax burden.....they will pay.......nothing!

You are absolutely kidding yourself. 99.999% of the population in every tax bracket tries as hard as they can to pay as little in taxes as they can get away with. If possible I would deduct, write off, shelter, and credit 200%. Paying nothing this year and having a carry forward for next year. And I've been doing that for half a century, and I've been doing that through multiple IRS audits. and I will continue to do so as long as I'm still breathing.

But may I point out....your taxation system is extortion...they are a private company stealing your money....while the rich pay nothing! FACT!

You deceive only your self as to the payment of just dues to society!

You call that screeching noise pollution that comes out of a squeezed bag, music? What are those bags made of? Moose colons or what? Sheep scrotum's?

Without the whiskey, the world would have pulled the plug on your country years ago and no one would have noticed. But the booze is great!

Personally, I think it's another way for liberals to make themselves feel good - if everybody gave money to all these causes, what a wonderful world this would be!

    Hogwash!

If you want to really make a difference, don't donate money - you can always get more of that. Instead, donate something far more precious, donate your time!

Instead of writing a check for $100 to the local homeless shelter and buying yourself a warm and fuzzy feeling, get your ass outta bed on Thanksgiving morning and serve meals to the shelter residents.

Don't throw money at a problem, actually get up and do something to make the world a better place!
