Poll. I am terrified of the thought that animals are abused and slaughtered, yet produced agressively, for no other purpose than to feed us people. So I don't want to eat any more meat, ever. But now I am terrified that vegetables/plants get abused and cut down too, after vicious production for no other purpose than to feed us. So I won't eat veggies either. ... Besides, why shall I have more sympathy for animals than for plants that can't even make a sound to voice their protest? So I think I will eat meat now. Your take?

lol... better to starve yourself, then. I have a test for you. Move to Alaska... walk up to a Polar or Grizzly Bear and ask them if they'd like to be vegetarians. Report back with your findings.

I think they should grab the bear by the tail and drag it back to me so I can ask the bear for myself.

Plants aren't sentient. Most forms of livestock are. A pig feels fear, pain, and depression when its offspring is taken from it. A plant feels nothing. A plant may react to its environment, just like a bacteria or even a robot might, but they have no awareness.

Ah, the good ol' "appeal to nature" always pops up in these discussions. Just because something is natural in no way makes it better. And all the major medical associations agree that a properly balanced vegetarian or vegan diet are perfectly healthy.

Meat is not natural ? vegetables are poor nutrition when compared to meat , you have to eat more and they are harder to digest. This is why herbivorous animals have more gut .
Our brains grew because of bone marrow and hunting kept us alive for millions of years while dedicated plant eaters extinct . If you compare big meat eaters like Cro Magnons and Neanderthals to us you will find that our brains are smaller .
You can eat whatever you like but we wouldn't chat through a computer if our ancestors chose rice over deer.

I didn't say meat wasn't natural. I am saying natural doesn't necessarily mean better. Your gut does just fine with fruits and vegetables and grains. In fact, the fiber is good for your gut. Now if you are planning on eating straw like some other herbivores do, then you are probably in for a world of hurt.

During our primitive years a vegan diet would NOT have been prudent, I agree. People had to take calories where they could get them. But modern day human has easy access to foods from all over the world, regardless of season. Societies change as they become more and more civilized. There was a time when rape would have been a perfectly acceptable means of spreading one’s DNA. There was a time when stealing what you wanted from the weak was the norm. They didn’t know better and they had limited options. I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to use them as my role models.

What matters is what is healthy NOW. Do you have actual data that shows the consensus of the medical community is wrong on this subject?

I'm sure that is what goes through a Killer Whale's mind as she is chewing off the tongue of a Blue Whale. Of course the Dung Beetle just sits back smugly because he knows that the (*)(*)(*)(*) is pure.

By no means i want to prove that the medical community is wrong since 1. i am not a doctor 2.it would be pointless since we are omnivorous species anyway.
I am not saying that being a vegetarian is bad (if you are okay with all the farting) it is just poor diet , it is a personal choice that i would have never made, people become vegetarian for really wrong reasons such as sympathy for the animals .

Cooking made everything possible , without cooking vegetarians would had to spent 3/4 of their day chewing.
Fiber may be good but even herbivorous hominids added termites to their diet.

    I agree.

Not to mention eating meat doesn't harm animals - sure butchering them does, but the meat you buy at a major grocery store is pre-stocked, so it's 'butchered' whether you buy it or not - if you don't buy it, it's just going into a dumpster to rot, so no reason not to just buy it and eat it - you're not killing an animal, just eating one that's already dead (like a vulture).

And the amount of money you contribute to the 'meat industry' is nonexistent - for example Walmart makes about $80,000 in profit per second - so a guy who spends maybe $60-80 a month on meat is making such an insignificant mark it's not worth considering - your farts probably contributes about as much to global warming as you do to the meat industry

So just serve up that tasty animal on a bun and don't give it a second thought ;)

Fill your head with salad if you didn't already. The question above is impertinent and insulting. I will continue to eat meat. That does not say that I want anything or anyone to suffer. I am just following nature.

I am going to continue to eat both meat and non-meat but its not because I desire suffering of any sort. Its just something that must happen if I don't want to starve.

I relish the thought of how the tomato must have suffered; first being plucked prematurely, then squished into tomato sauce, and heated in an oven along with cheese, to finally become my pizza. Mm, your suffering mr. Tomato, it's soo delicious!

I'm a hunter and most of the meat I eat is wild game. The older I get the harder it is for me to pull the trigger and kill large beautiful animals but I really like meat so that's just the way it is. I do believe though that if everyone had to kill whatever meat animal they eat there would be a lot more veggies running around.

Live off the land. Only eat food that you have killed yourself. At least then you are not involved in "aggressive or vicious production."

but if they couldn't depend on other's providing them with food, there'd suddenly be very few vegetarians left.
